at a camping and caravan site near Newquay the owner has a Defender 90 with tow ball on the rear as normal, and tow ball fixed to the front bumper to manoeuvre caravans round the site.... a lot easier on a 90 with steel girder bumper than on a FL2 though |

See Ebay item no eBay Item No. 282840468672. This has been for sale for about 3 months so there doesn`t seem to be much interest in it. Might be insurance implications with having it fitted? I`m sure there must be a few Freelanders with one fitted. The company that made them (Watling)I assume did a bit of market research into a demand for it before they started making them? |

Seen one on a vehicle up on an estate in Scotland last year ,Toyota, I think. If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

insurance company's ask about a tow bar but don't specify front or rear. wonder if you could get away with it. Common sense isn't very common.

I understand how a front towbar works to give greater control to manouvre. But with a large trailer or caravan, how the do you see where you are going? At least when you're reversing you can use your mirrors! |

The front tow bar fits to one side of the vehicle so you can see down one side of the towed item while pushing/pulling it. Me dad had one on his old series tratter. We think it came from a caravan site before he had it. Hence the front tow bar. Hippo's videos - Honorary Tratterer |

I have a removable front tow hitch which I use to manoeuvre my small yacht on its trailer when I bring her home during the winter. It is a very awkward uphill dog-leg which was almost impossible when reversing but is really easy when pushing using the front bar as the steering is very close to the hitch. I bought mine from Watling but it was a bit ugly even with the ball removed so I welded a couple of bracket to the front cross member which looks much better and has worked well for the past four years. - 2007(57) XS Auto, Rimini Red, Alpaca Leather.

This is my front Tow Bar ..... its a US receiver. I have 'plug-in' bar that gives me a 50mm ball or a winch plate bracket.

I'm interested on having one in the front for a winch plate. How did you install it? Is it welded somewhere? Thanks, Juan |
