I don't think that's normal. Could the previous owner have wired the lamp into the power supply to the accessory socket? The two are pretty close together. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE |

Never looked in the boot while driving but I checked the circuit diagram and the light in the boot should only be on when the interior lights are on. There is only one dimmer for the interior lights, the footwell lights and the light in the boot, they should all go on and off together. |

Just wondering. On opening the back door the light does stay on for a good while then goes off automatically. Never actually timed it. If it stays on for say hours I would look at the back door switch |

May bit a obtuse but possibly the previous owner modified it to carry around a pet. I have a rescue parrot that often gets moved in the FL2 and it took it ages to be able to travel in the dark so we had to put on the interior lights.

Thanks folks.. The only reason i spotted it was I parked up turned the engine off (it was about 10pm) I heard a noise outside behind the car when i looked round so see what it was I noticed a glow coming from the passenger side rear where the load cover doesn't fully cover the back of the boot... I did the obvious n checked the tailgate was fully closed and thats how I noticed the light only goes off when I lock the vehicle from the fob???

If you feel you do not need light in the boot yes just remove the bulb. A good auto electrician should be able to tackle it in no time at all. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I'm not an auto electrician either, but for my 2-pennyworth, I would say that, yes, the light being on will gradually drain your battery, which would be likely to lead to other undesirable issues, especially if your car is unused for a few days. I think you could safely remove the bulb without this causing any other problem - but other wiser forum members may come along to correct me... Currently enjoying:

Not right, I can leave the tailgate open & the light goes out after a matter of minutes.

It goes off roughly in 5 minutes in my car. But I have removed it anyway as it was a pain while trying to get to sleep in the car while camping. The cover simply unclips with a bit of force, but not too much, & pop the globe out. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

In MY13 onwards the boot lamp goes on and off in time with the interior lights. The boot door, like any other door, on the latter FL2s just signals to the central system that a door is ajar/open. The central system then seems to fade the the interior lights on and off. I don't understand the logic, it seems to depend upon several things including the central locking.

Well thanks everyone ! Seems like the green oval logic strikes again providing its not going to cause any other issues I will look to removing the bulb in the first instance unless anyone knows a good (reasonably priced) auto elec in the north west

My previous 07 Reg freelander 2 did the same boot lamp on all the time it was caused by a broken microswitch in the boot latch. |
