2013> model keyfob question

I'm having so much hassle with the dealer selling me my 2014my FL it's put picking it up more of a chore than an exiting time.
I wont go into all the details about delivery problems, etc but after speaking to the saleguy yesterday and him saying a new key fob was there (so i have a spare ) he sent an email today saying it hadn't arrived from LR dealer so he'd send it on later Rolling Eyes
If i understand correctly the new fobs (keyless models) come from the dealers with key blade ready cut BUT you need to have the fob programmed to the car? or are these ready to use (ready programmed)?

Thought as much Sad
Got a price from a local indy at £45+vat for the coding but they need to book it in for that which is awkward due to work - i'd hoped they could do it while i waited? how long does it take to do?

If the process for FL keys is the same as for the D4, then they come with a blank key blade - the correct cut blade needs to be ordered individually by the dealer. So, in essence, there are three parts to getting a new key - the fob itself, pairing the fob to the car & getting the correct blade for the car.

Damn, that makes it even more of a chore.
I'm not sure if i should collect the car, as if i do with the promise of a new key coming in the post if it does turn up it might not have the blade and i still don't know if they're going to pay for the coding (and now cutting of the blade)?
The car is to be collected from a delivery centre not their branch which is over 200 miles away so the centre wont sort this out as it isn't their sale?

If you're worried, get a price for a new fob, blade & pairing from your nearest LR dealer & tell the seller you will hold back the equivalent amount from the purchase price until you have everything from them. If they provide an unpaired fob without a cut blade then reduce the amount you hold back etc.

When I bought my D4 they'd lost the spare key so provided a paired fob & posted the blade on to me when it arrived, however, I was dealing direct with a LR dealer & it sounds like you aren't?

Be aware too that if it's the same as D4 I think there is a limit to the number of keys that can be paired to the car - I think it's 3, after that you need to get a replacement module for the car too?

Don't get too worried about it, just stick to your guns & insist on what they have agreed to provide for the price you are paying, especially if you have e-mails from them saying they will provide a spare fob/key.

Thumbs Up

Garage is being awkward about everything since they cocked up the figures on their car and i'm thinking they want me to cancel as they've said twice i can have my deposit back, they probably hope i will then they'll sell it again for at least £1k more.
The car was supposed to be delivered to centre last weekend but was still on ramps waiting for discs + pads to arrive Rolling Eyes then it was promised to be delivered for this weekend and wednesday the called to say they couldn't get it delivered by the transport company as it wasn't ready in time to book a slot Confused so now i've had to book monday off work to collect it.
They emailed today to say it's been collected by delivery company and will be there monday but can't say what time or AM or PM so i can't change insurance over until i know.
I haven't even seen the car in the flesh so if anything isn't spot on i wont be taking it as if they are so bad before handover then if the car is taken away they wont be any help at all

so frustrating - is it worth it?

Seen some Nissan Juke Nismo GTRs for sale for £14700 - 17 plates with less than 3000 miles - might be better getting 1 of them Wink

Can't say until i get it sorted in case someone points them to this forum - might make things worse before collection?
I'm going to call them tomorrow to point out i wont be going to pick it up unless they agree on me holding back part of the payment until the fob + blade arrive and i get it programmed, doubt they'll agree to this though?

I can see i wont end up with this car Sad

I think I would be walking away from this dealership. After all if they can’t sort out the key to your satisfaction what happens if you have a later problem with the car? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

That's what i'm thinking but the car is more than £2000 cheaper than similar ones for sale at the mileage
2014 Dynamic with 42000 miles £14995 - can't find any others for same money, some on ebay, etc are £19k - £21k with similar mileages Shocked

And doesn’t that ring any alarm bells? I assume we are not talking about a LandRover dealer here. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

It's from a big chain of dealers - non LR

They put the car up on Auto Trader for £14995 and i must have seen it within minutes of it going live - i phoned dealer and we worked out figures and i said i'd call back.
While i was speaking to them i clicked on their website and it was up at £15995 on there.
When i phoned back they said there was a mistake on the price but would go with the lower price as they'd agreed a price to change.

Not wanting to put you off, but I made a conscious decision to buy my 1 owner D4 from a Land Rover dealer because after much searching I just did not feel that any of the forecourt car sales dealers really knew how complex 4x4s are or had adequate warranty or back up facilities to offer. Cost me a few quid more but I got a LR Approved Used 2 year warranty plus LR Assistance & MoT insurance. I also had them include a service on the car & have a copy of the invoice from service to sales that shows they replaced a lot of stuff I simply would not have picked up AND I know they used genuine LR parts which are guaranteed for 2 years and also cover consequential damage if they fail.

My decision paid off well as within a few months of getting it I had two door locks replaced with no quibble, including the tailgate one which had failed locked, as well as a new viscous fan fitted. None of these were obviously faulty and while they were each being fixed I was loaned another D4 as a courtesy car - including one that only had 14 miles on it when I collected it Very Happy

Don't buy the Datsun, just look for a FL2 from a reputable specialist or LR franchise dealer Thumbs Up
