United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Stornoway Grey

I've have had this problem before ...

The tailgate release switch on my car has already been replaced once, this happend during summer last year. There is no doubt that water had been getting in behind the rubber cover (the rubber cover is what you feel when operating the tailgate release). The problem last year was that the water ingress had caused the switch to corrode so it failed to operate.

Like others I've been suffering with the switch being frozen over the last 2-3 weeks, this is because the water that has (yet again) got in behind the rubber holds there and freezes, which prevents any movment of the switch. When this happens just use the tailgate release button on the remote. This works no problem as it only the switch that is not functioning corretly, other the parts of the machansim work fine.

I'm sure this is pointing towards there being a design issue here, water must be getting in at the join where the numberplate cover meets the tailgate.

My car has not been washed in weeks so the water that is frozen in the switch has been there for at least that long. Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ... Big Cry ... psst look at my gallery!

2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Tonga Green

To read the manual is a good advise ... to me too ...as a friend of mine experienced some days ago.
He wasn't able to open his car at all, due to battery failure with the remote opening. He called the service, as he didn't know that there was an emergency key hidden in the "black-box" Rolling Eyes . Well, it would not let him strat his car but at least to get out personal stuff, dogs, kids, ......never lock when kids are inside Exclamation !

England

The water has got into behind the rubber into the switch hence it has frozen, it will be ok for a few weeks if you are lucky when it thaws out but the water ingress will be attacking the contacts and the springs in the switch. I had to change mine last winter it cost about £7 for the switch and about 1/2 an hour to fit, it was easier to do this rather the let the dealer have it for two days to do it. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior
