I will take a guess that you have to use the key on the left hand door. Not going to be too good if its parked tight against anything.

Once you put the key fob in the slot and press the start button, it should just start up. Worked for me. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE |

I left my MY2011 FL2 at the airport and I know from experience that the car will gradually shut down according to time and battery condition. Even if your battery is good, it will stop looking for your key after about 28days, and everything apart from the door alarm will stop working to save the battery. If your battery is suspect then it will be shorter.
