Hb3 bulb

I have a freelander 2 62 plate registered in 2013 if that make a diifferance, the bulbs in the headlights have gone again, change every 2 months at the moment. Have only just noticed that the bulbs the dealers have been giving me are fog light bulbs and not the hb3 55w bulbs which the owners handbook says I should have in. I've searched all over and can not find these bulbs anywhere? I've looked on here and most people are saying to get the night breakers but they are 60 watt bulbs. So what bulbs should I be putting in instead??

Get back to the dealers and demand they fit the right bulbs and when you're there ask about LR release re; bulbs blowing.

something on here about it being known about.
Good luck If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

Try this thread...

http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic30567.html

A few points to help though...

- The HB3 bulb looks very like the foglight bulb

- The handbook is wrong about the bulbs and shows the pre facelift bulbs in the pics. This might help... http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic30826.html

- The design of the headlight means they blow regularly

- The headlights aren't bright, using an upgraded bulb means they will blow even more often.

- Osram or Phillips OEM bulbs are available from Amazon ... https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001QP...&psc=1

- Keep a spare pair of bulbs with a 10mm spanner in your glovebox

I'm currently using Halfords own +90%. Apparently made for them by Ring. So far so good.

I don't agrre that upgraded bulbs will mean that they will blow more often. The +90% bulbs are still 60W so they generate exactly the same amount of heat. They get the brighter output by using a different gas in the bulb like Xenon instead of Halogen. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

I think there is some confusion here about halogen vs Xenon etc. there are two types of tungsten filament bulbs , one is called Halogen and the other is Xenon. In the early days of lightbulbs using a vacuum to stop the Tungsten filament oxidising it was found that the tungsten filament would slowly lose some of the tungsten which would evaporate and deposit somewhere cooler. This gave you a thinner part of the filament which therefore had a higher electrical resistance and so got hotter and speeded up the process such that eventually the filament failed. One solution was to add an inert gas to reduce the evaporation rate and in the case of lightbulbs this was Argon but more recently Xenon. Then someone came up with the idea of adding a small amount of a Halogen element such as Bromine, Chlorine or Iodine, this created a situation where any vapourised Tungsten reacted with the Halogen and by chance it breaks down at high temperatures so had the effect of putting the tungsten back on the filament in the hottest place. This lengthened bulb life and also made it possible to increase the temperature and hence bluer colour. (It's analogous to galvanising iron). So Xenon lamps have mainly Xenon and a small amount of a Halogen added. Cheaper lamps have Argon and run at a lower temperature. Fundamentally it's a marketing issue.
This is not the same as Xenon discharge lamps which are like a continuous camera flashgun going off and have to run at a higher voltage involving ballast resistors and control modules. There is no filament involved, just a couple of electrodes in a glass tube filled with low pressure Xenon. A couple of kv is required to get the discharge started.

I stand to be corrected on some of the finer details here but this is the basic situation. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Upgraded halogen bulbs have approximately half the lifespan of a normal bulb
