Freelander2 Static Battery discharge current

I have a Freelander 2 (2007), can anyone tell me what the normal battery current discharge should be when in a parked (non-running mode). Presumably this should only be down to the alarm and disable systems ??

Freelander 2 quiescent current

Many thanks for the response, have viewed the URL thread and it says the current should be around 23.6mA which sounds about right. However I measure over 2 amps (which sounds about wrong) but this is measured just before the battery is reconnected. Should I wait 12 mins disconnect the battery and then measure ??

You will need to disconnect the battery, put an ammeter in series and then connect back up, then double lock the car and leave it for a while to settle down. There are quite a few systems on cars these days so don't be surprised if it takes longer than 12 mins before you get a true quiescent current reading. The meter stays in circuit remember. I assume that you suspect a problem. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Portculislr,

I think the problem that you are having with the measurement is that you reset the electronics when you disconnect the battery which causes them to wake up and gives a misleading leakage measurement.

To do what you are asking you will need to do something like the following

- disconnect the negative lead

- connect a jumper wire from the negative lead to the negative terminal

- connect the AMP meter from the negative terminal to the negative lead (in parallel with the jumper wire)

- double lock

- wait the 12 minutes or more

- turn on the amp meter and set it to mili amps

- disconnect the jumper so at any leakage current go through the amp meter

- post your finding here


The reason for doing it this way is that the voltage never drops below 12V after you double lock.

Hopefully this makes sense

Many thanks for the procedure, will do this to try and confirm that normal quiescent current is what it is supposed to be

Just make sure you double lock it to get the 12 minute shutdown, if you single lock it, it is 36 minutes to shutdown.
