The oil filter is directly behind the front grille (fender), but very difficult to access. Forget any work from the top, you can only get to the oil filter from the botton. Remove the metal engine protection shield and ask someone with very thin arms to squeeze between water cooler and fender to unscrew the filter top. A long wrench will be helpful.

I Forgot to ask whether anyone is aware of the specialist tool LR use to remove the oil filter? I've heard there is one in existance, but it'll set you back £600!!! Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass |

If LR have intentionally made changing the oil and oil filter difficult what is the point of doing the job yourself

I agree. I do have it serviced at LR, but I intend to keep the car for a long time so I change the oil and filter between services. Always have done on all my cars. I know there's arguments for and against changing between services, but I've always favoured the 'for'. Costs me £40.00 to do it, so I save £100.00 over having it done at LR. It is a difficult job, but hey, everyone likes a challenge! LR will have to get up early to stop me from doing a bit of DIY mechanic work!! I think it's a difficult job cos the engine was designed to fit in a peugeot not in a FL2

The engine is designed for Peugeot, Citreon and Land Rover, it was developed for all three models so they havent just got someone eles's engine and chucked it in. That's true, but when you try to do any maintenance, it seems as though it was chucked in! Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass |

I just removed the metal skid plate, directly below the engine - there are 6 bolts. Here you access the oil drainage plug also. To remove the plastic oil filter cover, I just used a small set of adjustable grips - that I gripped on to the plastic nut at the tip of the filter cover. I didn't have to remove the plastic shield at the front of the engine bay. Hope that helps |
