Wet footwell carpets (front)

Anyone ever had this on their car? Some research on Audi forums suggested blocked drainage in the doors could be at fault or the pollen filter. I had this occur twice in the last couple of months and dried the carpet out by pumping warm air conditioned air into the footwell while the car was sat on the drive (locked).

First time using the car today since last Friday and the carpet on the drivers side in particular is soaked! I’ll be booking it in with Audi soon but thought I’d gather your thoughts.

Faulty door/window seals can also cause wet carpets.
Can be difficult to trace water ingress.

Check the windscreen drainage scuttles - they sometimes block way down near their point of egress (especially on on vag motors) with water backing up and entering thru the pollen filter.

Had this problem years ago on my Passat which also Censored the electrics which were contained in a black box under the carpet in the passenger footwell. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

I have had water ingress several times over the years in different (non FL2) cars.

Not sure if this is any help but;
(1) blocking of the drains either side at the base of the windscreen, caused water to go into the heating intake.
(2) poor rubber sealing at window bottom, and importantly loose plastic membrame behind door card, allowed water to leak into footwell instead of being directed out of door drains.
(3) poor sealing at bottom of windscreen (only leaked when travelling in heavy rain)

My non scientific method of ruling out possible causes was to use waterproof tape over likely areas, one at a time, until water stopped. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Well I took the car to Audi today and as I drove along I noticed water dripping down from around the switches for the sunroof and interior light. I also noticed wet patches on the roof lining at the top of the pillars on both sides.

So after meddling with it all day they have found the fault! The frame for the panoramic glass sunroof is fractured! They are going to contact Audi warranty tomorrow to ensure they will honour the claim (which may extend to new carpets if they have gone manky).

The next problem is that the part required is on back order. This means that if I want my car back in the meantime, it'll still have the leaky roof or I just hang onto their courtesy car for however long it takes. They have given me a 67 plate A1 TDI DSG S-Line. Perfectly acceptable car but only for a certain amount of time...

Let's see what happens tomorrow LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Id stick with the courtesy car until yours is fixed. They cant expect you to drive around with a leaking sunroof, damp headlining, water in the overhead electrics etc etc etc.

Right, the latest update is that there is still no word from the warranty people so it will be Monday before there is any decision. The engineer has confirmed that it is not the glass at fault and it is not down to something hitting the roof for example.

It is a faulty part in the frame which has deteriorated and got worse until the rain is coming in excessively. One of the parts required is back in stock now so it should be a quicker process. Meanwhile my car is in their indoor car park for obvious reasons! LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Ok, Derby Audi phoned a short while ago to deliver two lots of bad news and one piece of excellent news.

The fault is not covered by the warranty and the cost to me would be between £3k and £4k. Shocked Basically it needs a whole new glass roof and all components.

Fortunately, Audi HQ and the sales team at the dealer are going to split the cost between them so I don’t have to part with anything. One positive review coming up on Google once I have it back around the 19th Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

That is a very good result indeed, although as its not the actual glass at fault (crack or seal) but rather a mechanical component then IMO they should have covered it under warranty.

Shame LR very rarely show the same level of customer relations.

Looking at your previous posts are you not within the statutory 3 months warranty of a trader sale, therefore irrespective of any other warranty they are liable, or have I missed something, if not you are extremely unlucky as you seem to have missed by just days my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I got a 12 months Audi approved warranty with the car when I bought it. Beyond that, I’d have had the option of going to the ombudsman if they had refused to wear the cost or exercise my rights under the Consumer Rights Act. Consumer law is one of my areas of expertise but I am relieved that I didn’t have the hassle of having to deploy it. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby
