I own a FR2 (2007). Took it in for it's 1st yr service (done 6k miles) with Guy Salmon. Got it back with NO dealer service stamp so I checked the oil to see if they had done the basics......the oil was black!
My huntch is that it's not been serviced (unless the oil they use is black!) and I have paid £250 for the pleasure.
Has anybody else experienced this?

It would be more than their dealership name is worth, not to change the oil at a service. I understand that when they drain out the old stuff a certain amount of oil is left in the sump and as soon as the car is started up with the new oil in, it is immediately contaminated and as a result, discoloured.
I use Guy Salmon in Kent and I feel the dealership chain generally, is far too professional to screw you over for about £20 worth of oil.
However, the lack of a stamp is annoying and totally inefficient by one of their desk staff  FL2 TD4 XS Santorini

I would go back and speak to them on it and find out what it done on the first service and have the dealer stamp the book.

Is your trip still saying that you need a service

I can't recall whether the oil is changed at the second service though so this might be the case,

aswell as they only ever get as much oil out as possible in a set time, which will get most of it out, then they add the required amount as per the service sheet into the car, which means they might overfill the oil, leading to foaming oil and the left over oil will discolour the new oil quickly Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Regardless of getting all the oil out before putting new in. TD engine oil will appear black within a few miles of first start up post oil change. It often looks like it's not been changed, even when I know I've just done it

My oil was very clear for nearly a week after it was changed. If your oil is black then I would suspect that it hasn't been changed and I would go straight back to the dealer and demand an explanation from them.

Spoke to the service manager - oversight on stamping my book!
They say the oil is naturally dark - that's the way it comes! (when I decribed it as 'black' in my original blog, well, it was not black as soot but a very dark brown!) so maybe the oil has been changd.
Owned a petrol VW before - when they changed the oil on that, it used to be a clear/golden colour, hence my concerns

I think its the airfilter they don't change on the first service not the oil, though it might be worth having a look at it as they can be quite clogged, and they are only £8 to swap yourself  Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

bilen123: I checked the oil after driving home from the first service and the oil was golden colour
However, I have heard they do use BLACK oil in Black FL2's - so maybe your service guy was colour blind  2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.
Stornoway Grey with Ebony Black Pleather, Clear Indicators, Body Side Mouldings etc.

Check the oil again over the weekend - dark brown and black at the tip. Will have to take their word for it that they changed the oil
