Well I'll be able to try it out myself now having picked up our freelander yesterday.
Trip away planned at new year. Just need to sort out 13 pin connection as came with twin 7 s and n fitted. Cant believe it's nearly 3 years since I posted that, how time flies!

So first tow today, just a few miles home from the storage compound. Felt effortless and very happy with the performance. Is there a towing mode selected by connecting the caravan electrics which cause the gearbox to change up at higher revs than solo?

I used to tow a Swift Challenger 625 twin axle, with a laden weight of 1845kg, & the Freelander towed it without any problems, even up into the highlands of Scotland, & far from causing traffic jams, I found I was often held up by dawdling holiday makers, sight seeing, chugging along at 40 mph, on a single carriageway with a national speed limit, so don't be quick to slate all caravaners as slow!

Yep identical van. Had it from new in 2012. Very pleased with it still. Just the 4 of us as well, the extra space is great.

First decent tow yesterday of about 35 miles. I have to admit I was sceptical that the F2 would be up to pulling a big caravan and that I would be disappointed after the Disco 2. But wow what a revelation, it seemed to tow effortlessly and had plenty in reserve. At times I was actually having to hold it back. The auto box suits towing so well and can mimic low speed manoeuvre that I would have before used low box for. I'm very impressed  Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I found the FL2 to be very stable when towing (apart from exceptional good towing performance). Think it is the short distance from the tow hook to the rear axle of the car that makes the Freelander 2 so stable when towing rather heavy rigs. 2013 SD4 SE (hers)

I tow an 1800kg twin axle no problem with my freelander auto

reading about and seeing some of the larger outfits people on here tow with their Freelanders' I feel like I'm not even trying with my little (1400Kg max) van - does the larger van signify anything like driving a car with a long bonnet -

I currently tow a Coachman VIP 575 maximum weight 1700kg behind a 2013 FL2 with no bother at all.
Its a standard 150 hp manual and on a trip back from Spain it averaged 27mpg, it tows in 6 gear nearly all the time.
It likes a good nose weight and tows better with 2 bikes on the tow bar.
