Had a petition last week from sheep on other side of the mountain asking to keep high beams off at night as they now think its daylight when I come in at night and the cant get back to nibbling the grass .....

After reading this thread, am I right in assuming my headlight bulbs are HB3 and to avoid Halfords as these bulbs can get trapped and break in the shutter? My headlight units have HAL stickers on the top and have the led signature malarkey. |

Been some talk about Halfords taking them off shelf/ If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

. Changed mine yesterday with lr hb3 bulb . Just to avoid the shattering glass that's been reported. Easier job than I expected after doing for 1st time, even though you have to take the headlight out of car. |

If you have the final incarnation halogen headlights with the round LED DRLs then the headlight bulbs are HB3 They seem to last a very short time (about 6 months / 12k miles in my case) which could be caused by the shutter overheating the bulbs. I my case I have replaced 6 bulbs so far and two have shattered - both were 'GE' bulbs from Halfords I've been using Osram standard ones which don't last any longer but so far haven't shattered! My next set (I always have a spare set and a 10mm spanner in the car) are Phillips - I expect them to be fitted around March! |

I have been using Osram for a while now which seem to last around 9 months, depending on time of year etc. I never travel with less than two spares in the glovebox!!

Back in 2009 we bought a new Golf with bog standard halogen lights. Before delivery I joined a Golf forum and some were talking about bulb changes to improve lighting. I bought a selection of bulbs from our supplier and tried them out on a car using our MOT headlamp tester which measured the light output. You’d be surprised at the results. Things may have moved on since then but here’s a post I did on it at the time. http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthread.php?t=151363

I went to buy some spare LR HB3 bulbs from a LR indie on Saturday. I showed him the old box with the code on and the first thing he asked was -- Freelander ?? I said yes and he said there was some sort of fix because so many were going quickly - something to do with a wire and shorting ? I told him my first set lasted 2 years, as has one of my second set so far, so he said its unlikely that my car is affected. Maybe something to look into for others ? |

How many miles have you done in the 2 years Deano? In my case that would be about 50,000 with the bulbs lasting about 12,000 on average |
