Iphone to Windows Phone

due to been a Apple Geek myself, i haven't a clue, so I turn to the knowledge base of a car forum.

My sons iPhone4 is on its last legs and his Uncle has given him a Windows Lumia640lte which is near brand new

1) Iphone/account has all his mates on it, how do we go about transferring them to a windows phone? Before it was backup and sync, between iPhones, not sure best way for iphone>windows phone

2) Itunes Family for his music, does Windows Phones have itunes app?

3) Facetime, I guess he has to move to WhatsApp for his video calls

4) Does he need a Microsoft Account, (he has a account Via his Xbox) Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

This might help

You will be best to set up an outlook account as the base email for the phone - that will then hold your new contacts and 'onedrive' etc.

Dont think there is an itunes app but you can play music on the phone from sd card or from the internal memory with no issue.

Yes switch to whatsapp

He is in for a painful transition. Coming from an iPhone with every app in the world available to Windows Phone which has only a few of the big names, he is going to find it difficult.

As the other poster has suggested, move to either an Outlook or Gmail email account. Doing so will allow him to save his contacts there as well so when he inevitably moves to a different handset all he needs to do is sign into his account and all the contacts etc will sync to the new handset.

As for music, services like Spotify or Napster will work fine but he can also transfer music files over from a computer. But there is no software as nice as iTunes for Windows Phone. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

Also, any content bought via iTunes will likely not play on his Windows phone. Only songs, movie etc he’s ripped himself will play. If he’s at all invested in the Apple eco system I would recommend selling the Lumia and getting another iPhone. The 7 is great value at the moment.

Such a shame the windows phone didn't take off with the app writers as it is a great operating system/phone system. The link with MS office packages made it a great business phone as well as personal phone. I'm sure it will be back the windows surface phone in some way.

I loved my Windows Phones. But it began to get frustrating when time after time developers said they weren't releasing an app for it, or they were no longer supporting the one they had out.

Sonos for me was the deal breaker.

Very much an Android person now. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
