Woolworths ... who next?

I was given some gift vouchers a few weeks ago, valid at B&Q, Comet and Woolworth's, thought I'd keep them to use in the sales ...

I took a run down to Comet today, decided to get a flatscreen tv and the 75 quids worth of vouchers would take the sting out of the cost. Got to the checkout where I was politely informed that because of the Woolworths issue then the vouchers were not valid Big Cry

The checkout supervisor came over to confirm the situation and informed me that unfortunately the vouchers were worthless and they would not be accepted at B&Q or any remaining Woolworth stores. Big Cry (she also muttered something about B&Q being in bad shape too)

Guess that makes me an unsecured creditor ....

Anyone else got any vouchers tucked away, I believe the same problem is coming to light with Zavvi as well. Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ... Big Cry ... psst look at my gallery!

If the purchaser used his credit card to buy the vouchers he/she should get a refund from the card company, assuming you dont mind asking whoever gave you the vouchers to take them back Confused

You're right Zavvi aren't accepting vouchers, or giving refunds/exchanges.

Meaning that any unwanted or duplicate Christmas presents will be going on ebay this year.

I don't agree with Zavvi, as this isn't their fault, but for most of the others, if 2 - 3 months of bad trading means you go into administration, surely it's only a matter of time before they gave up, it was going to happen sooner or later.

The vouchers will be issued by a parent company, it sounds like them who has gone in to problems along with woolworths so B&Q and Comet would be able to recoup the money back from them.

Avtur, shop around for the TV, your most likey going to find it £75 cheaper elsewhere anyway Thumbs Up

I found www.Soundandvisiononline.co.uk (based in Manchester) very good with the deals and free 5 years panasonic warranty too Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

We got a TV from Comet, weren't looking for anything special (don't have the space) so a 26" was all we wanted. Ended up with a Hitachi 26" LCD plus stand for £325.

The vouchers were issued by Kingfisher, the parent company of B&Q, Comet and Woolworths. The Kingfisher website seems to have disappeared and nobody at a comet or B&Q is willing to discuss the matter. I got the vouchers from work so I'll ask about the source when all returns to normal next week. Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ...
