Nothing shocking at all about the price! The prices will only dip in 2020 when diesels get heavily taxed up here. MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

I had a TDI Defender for many years - taught the kids to drive in it and even stuck a 3.5V8 in it.

But I'd rather have an old Discovery 200/300TDI, TD5 (had all of these ) or V8 - almost the same off-road ability but so much nicer to drive and more practical in every day use.

That car wasn’t too far away from £60k when new.

EDIT - just checked an old Auto Express test, the 2015 autobiography was priced at £61,845 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

its bonkers, yes they are an icon, but slow sloppy handling, draughty cramped , safe? secure?

I loved mine as farm trucks but for road trips no no,
Although a dirty looking defender is one of the best giveway sign you can drive, people simply get out of the way, and if they dont its small enough to find a gap. you just dont get that feel with a ford pickup truck.

My feet are still cold from riding in our series2 as a kid, what heat the vents chucked out was simply lost through the numerous holes, On one the windscreen vents never completely closed so it was proper cold. mind you I had an astra like that cold air just oozed through the center vents all the time. At work

I wouldn’t agree that people got out of the way! In my experience people a) underestimated your approach speed and b) assumed you would hold them up and had to be in front of you. So there were always folk overtaking or pulling out from side roads when it really wasn’t safe to do so, only to then sit at a slower speed in front of you.

Still think that later dashboard design was daft. The one thing you need in a Defender is flat space to put your coffee! I must have spent days of my life with a coffee cup on top of the speedo! Smile 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

you have to give them reason to want to stay out of the way. skim the white lines, nose out at roundabouts etc At work

Bit of a bargain compared to JLRs latest £150k V8!
Are any of these vastly inflated priced Defenders actually selling though? I see "as new last of line Defenders" for sale in some of the Landrover mags with only delivery miles, or are they sitting in stock waiting for the sucker to come along?
I did consider buying a Defender from the end of production but couldnt justify the cost then, if these are actually selling I could have easily doubled my money! Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

My wife would buy another one tomorrow ! It’s never going to happen though . Round here you might as well just put a large amount of cash in a carrier bag and hand it to the nearest hooded scrote cruising the country lanes in a Tranny . That way you cut out the middleman . Our last two fell pray to the particular industry which is Defender theft .. On Wednesday night the last person near us who still had a Defender came out to find it gone, despite the worst nights weather for years , the scrotes weren’t put off coming out to nick one .

I think the Defender will end up like the Tasmanian Tiger , picked off one by one , and in 20 years there will only be rumours that one has been seen Rolling with laughter .

I wonder how manyused Defenders on the market ( knowingly or unknowingly ) are sold with stolen parts on them. ? 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

The one Tassie tiger they see is in fact a fox, & there are questions about that!

The only thing you will see when going down to Tassie is a map! & that looks pretty good!

Maybe a TOYOTA logo across the back & another one on the bonnet & grill for good measure, then they think it is a 70 series Landcruiser & pi_s on it! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
