Newbie - Buying Advice!

Hi,

After taking about 6 months to decide on buying a Freelander 2, I have put a deposit on one to view this weekend. Its a 13 plate HSE (SD4 Auto) with 45000 miles on the clock, I would be the 3rd owner.

Its from LR approved, couple of questions

What common faults should I be looking out for?
Is the 2 year approved warranty really good?
Its up for £17,000, is that about right?

I am sure I will have many questions post purchase so you might see more of me!

Thanks

Alan

Common faults are across the range and are listed on this forum in various places. Diffs and Haldex are the most common (covered by warranty anyway) but there are other niggly faults same as any brand. Just spend time browsing the forum for things to look out for.

The approved warranty is excellent IMO (and many others), covers pretty much everything. The LR Assist breakdown package is as good if not better as well.

17k is about right from a main dealer yes and the mileage is good. I have a 13 plate HSE Auto off the approved scheme 8 months ago with 61k on the clock, 2nd owner. Getting its first LR service with me on Saturday under their 3+ service scheme for older models.

Thank you, I have spent the last couple of evenings browsing!

How are you finding the MPG?

Averaging 30-33 with mix of town driving and run up the A1 for 20 miles each way for work daily. (although I do have a big right foot Laughing )
Long run gives about 40+mpg sitting at 70-75mph.

United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Firenze Red

Good advice to browse the site as its a question often asked.

It needs to have a good service history and have had a 2017 B service with a new diesel filter as its a bit of a trial to do. If its a 2013 it should have had as below on it registration anniversary :

2014 A service
2015 B
2016 A
2017 B

Tyres - being a 4wd the Haldex/transmission gets less wear on 4 tyres of equal depth and make. They also often suffer from tyre noise when around 4mm and below. If its got a mix of tyres and depths you may want to consider your options.

MPG (with a light foot) is outstanding for the weight and performance

I agree with all the above, warranty is very good and one reason I stayed with LR. my 14 plate XS was just under £19k last March with 25k miles so your price sounds about right. The car had an unused spare so the dealer put that on the rear and replaced the other rear tyre as part of the deal and serviced it. I shortly afterwards put two new ones on the front. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

I have just requested the service history, they have said it has just been serviced and is full LRSH.

There are some cheaper 13 plates on auto trader but the warranty swung it for me, 2 years is really good.

Has anyone fitted the rear entertainment package? my son would love that!

it has been done, but its not as straight forward as you would hope.

probably better to get a headrest tablet holder and use an IPAD or Android tablet for him with headphones.

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Orkney Grey

Just picked my first Freelander yesterday. 2014 SD4 GS, Orkney grey, only 17000 miles, Approved used at £18725, and totally indistinguishable from a new car. So far delighted with it. Big change from my Td5 Discovery (which I still have too). Hoping for many happy years motoring with it. Will start a wee thread on it.

there is more passenger room (for 5) in the FL2 than there is in the D2 Very Happy

I loved my old D2 but the FL2 is so much better suited to everyday life for 90% of people. Welcome to the club Thumbs Up

best colour too Very Happy

Is be cautious about letting anyone add rear seat entertainment as it may add complication to any potential electrical warranty claims in future.

Loved my FL2’s and an HSE SD4 auto is a very nice spec. I got somewhere between 29 and (at a push) 31 mpg out of mine, but it’s hilly around here and that doesn’t help!
