Rattle in the dash trim.....grrrr

Hi All

Has anybody else got a rattle in the dash trim surrounding the radio unit?
Mine rattles all the time and can only be stopped if wedge my left knee against it!
It's in the area shown by the arrow.
If I remove it I reckon I can put some slim pieces of foam behind it to take up the "slack".
Any idea how it comes off please?

It's the only fault with the car at the moment so maybe I should count myself lucky! Laughing
ETA Not my actual dash, mines an auto but I doubt it makes much difference.

From memory you first have to remove the speaker grill which sits above the satnav. This is clipped into place and needs to be eased out with a trim removal tool or similar. It is a very tight fit so be prepared for the metal clips to ping off and be lost in the depths of the dash or for the plastic tabs to break off when removing!Once the grill is off you then remove the 4 torx screws that you can see above the satnav. Then remove the little rubber coin tray which is held in place by little lugs so it is quite easy to remove. This exposes another 2 screws which need removed. Then the complete trim can be eased out of position a little , then unplug wiring to upper switches then remove panel.Refitting is the reverse. Perhaps its been off before with some of the lugs being broken in the process thus giving you a rattle! Good luck anyway! Thumbs Up

sorry can't help you with this particular rattle but have one of my own that people might be able to help with
rattle comes from glove box side, maybe in the engine bay & only under 30 mph
tighten the 10 mm bolt behind the indicator in the wing but this didn't help & also checked for anything loose without any luck
anyone suggest anything else?

Glove box check rod not secure. Mine rattles now and then as its no longer perfect due to me using brute force when fitting the pollen filters. Embarassed FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

My rattle is dead centre of the dash, just in front of the shaped portion above the satnav, in the pic above.

But having a Land Rover where you can actually locate an individual, specific rattle is a novelty for me! I always suspected they started with a set of random rattles, then built a vehicle around them! Smile 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Ok, so on Sunday I removed the center trim panel to investigate my rattle.
Removal is quite straight forward starting with the speaker grill in the middle of the dash.
Next remove 4 "star" headed screws around the sat-nav screen and the whole plastic panel will prize off. Starting at the top gently pull it forward and the clips will release.

I found this video quite helpful:

Next, I noticed there was already some thin black felt strips along the inner edges of the panel so I simply cut some very thin strips of self adhesive foam (approx 1 mm thick) and stuck them over the top.

I then reassembled it all and hey presto the rattle has gone!

Sorry there are no pictures, my phone is having a new screen fitted so I couldn't use the camera, however I hope you find my findings helpful?

Mark Thumbs Up
