The screw-in support for the cover also holds the spare wheel in place (using the adjustable nut). If you remove it the wheel could fly about in an accident.

Thanks, I wasn’t planning on doing without some form of fixing to keep the wheel in place. But I might replace the fixing with something shorter so that I can use the open space in the wheel - if I can support the cover in a different way. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

That doesn't sound like a FL2 spare. The FL2 spare is NOT a space-saver. As stated above, it's either an alloy identical to the other four, including tyre, or it's a full-size 17" steel wheel with either a 235/65 or 225/65 tyre. Are you perhaps looking at a space-saver for the DS? (Yes it would fit the FL2, but why bother?). Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Can't see from that which size the wheel is (17" or 18"?) There should be plenty for sale. I'm pretty sure the wheel they are trying to sell you is the spare for the Discovery Sport. There will be very little demand for the steel FL2 wheel, and the DS one will fit. Far better to buy a spare alloy off e-bay, or on this site. Just be sure to get the correct size to match your existing wheels. If all you want is a spare, then the pattern doesn't matter either, so long as it's for a FL2 (beware - lots of FL1 wheels for sale - they look different and DON'T fit).
