Last year I had Mayrun MR500 tyres fitted to the FL2 for road use. I am really surprised and very happy with how these tyres are performing. Quiet, lots of grip in the wet, good wear and they were very cheap. I bought these on a tight budget with a view to changing them out when cash flow improved, but they are so good I am going to leave them on.

Here in Australia they were $500 for a set of four, fitted and balanced. That's about 250 quid in old money, bargain! I have done about 12,000 Kim's on them and they are wearing very well. These Chinese tyres are far better than the noisy, slippery continentals that were on it previously. Freelander 2, Nissan Elgrand Autech Rider.

has anyone tried sailun Chinese tyres,the u tube video reviews are interesting,they compare top brands on a test track with the names scrubbed off the premium tyres and the sailun so the motoring experts don't know which is which,,and they compare very well.i bought my hse with kinforest tyes already on (Chinese),and iv pushed the car on the wet,and offroad and to be honest I cant fault them,the sailuns 235/60/18 are about £85 fitted,i cant find kinforest in my size though

any thoughts?

For me - I wouldn't buy budget tyres. They are the only contact you have to the road, and so need to be pretty reliable...!!

Having said that - I an now fairly well off, and in my mid 60's.

In my youth, I drove cars on the cheapest tyres I could find. I'm still here, and I didn't kill anyone.

Your own driving skills are more crucial than the quality of rubber that communicates your driving skills to the road. Currently enjoying:

For what it's worth, I'd never buy 'cheap' tyres. As someone once said, and I know it's stating the obvious, the tyres are your only contact with the ground and even then only for perhaps 8ins square, in each corner. I'd not want to rely on a cheaper set of tyres either cornering or braking, especially in something as heavy as a Freelander.
Just a personal opinion.

but what about the tests?motoring experts could hardly tell the difference between sailun and top brands,or is all not what it seems?by the way,a friend said ,I wouldn't by cheap tyres,hes got kumho tyres,guess what,made in korea

the mayrun tyres are made by the same firm that make kinforest,

my car came with Riken 4 x 4 tyres, they seem fine. previous owner said her garage recommended them, well I guess they would, they were trying to sell them . .

I would guess because of the name they are cheap, Michelin own the brand. Never really been a tyre snob, similarly with clothes, big names don't do it for me. Never in 40 years have I driven so far that I can judge one tyre against another as many seem to do as I have never had to buy many tyres , maybe my driving style (or lack of it).

Some 47 years ago I rolled over a car due to tyre issues. Lesson learnt.

Into a third full set of quality tyres on the current MY13 FL2, at 25,000 miles they are binned. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

yes the ones mentioned,sailun and mayrun have very good reviews,so im in two minds,what is best,ive got a pal in the tyre trade,he can tell me the bad Chinese tyres ,but as for the two mentioned he has no knowledge of how they perform.
