It's fake news that all auto boxes pull away in second when in 'Drive', mine has always and still does set off in 1st after coming to a halt. Unless I have an extra 7th gear hidden away somewhere. |

I had a similar situation not along after I'd bought my TD4.e so returned it to the dealer who diagnosed a worn Propshaft bearing and replaced the whole Propshaft under warranty. Car is now spot on. _____________________________

Hence why I said ''think'' all auto boxes do it, im no mechanic and I don't profess to know everything about LR products..... although I know considerably more than most current LR sales people the FL2 Aisin box definitely pulls away in 2nd, and I ''think' all LR auto have always pulled away in 2nd. Its because 1st is so low geared for off road use (as is 2nd gear as well) that pulling away in first is pointless as the change up is needed virtually straight away during on road use and provides almost maximum torque from a standstill. Pulling away in 2nd reduces repetitive strain on the drivetrain. |

you are supposed to put it in manual mode for off roading so you have more control over the gear selection, otherwise it will be trying to change up gears at the wrong moment. Command shift holds onto the gears longer and HDC etc only works in 1st/2nd and reverse. |

But then you're more likely to be in the wrong gear for a dodgy part of terrain. Most of my dirt roading in France, Spain and Portugal I just left it in auto. I only used command shift when enjoying myself driving along the WRC stages.

Ah, so, that explains a lot - when driving say on a pebble beach or uphill in thick clarty stuff in D it seems to struggle a bit, but put it into manual mode & 1st & hey presto, instant calm, tons of torque and relaxed slow progress. Like a disco with low ratio, it really puts on a new character.

dirt roading is a little different to off roading IMO. driving on dirt tracks (particularly in those countries where its mostly dry dusty tracks I would imagine) then D is fine as its very little to do with low down torque in 1st gear and more to do with applying traction to the wheels with most grip. The FL2 can sort out dirt roading in standard D quite adequately. But for deep water, sand, mud, descents, ascents etc you need the low down torque to get maximum traction and grunt down when combined with the FL2 AWD electronics. This is only fully achieved in command shift 1st/2nd. e.g. deep water.... 500mm......if you enter it in Drive, the car will struggle until you can gain momentum through the resistance of the water. You should enter the water slowly then slowly increase speed to create the bow wave etc etc. but 2nd gear will struggle to get the torque down, you need the even lower gearing of 1st. (I know this as the first flood water I went through in my FL1 Auto it almost died in Drive. But knocking it into manual 1st made a massive difference and I got through) |

My clutch has been slipping since shortly after I bought the car at 18,000 miles. It's now on 43,000. DMF require a really clean gear change with the minimum of clutch drag which I have been doing to maximise the clutch life.

Three weeks in and still getting used to my 59 Plate FL2. A couple of times I have wondered if I have this 5th/6th gear clutch slip - hard to describe the sensation, it seems to pull strongly and smoothly on acceleration, but there is a point where revs just drop slightly (you don’t feel it, just hear it), sounds like an automatic changing up a gear. As I say, speed build-up is consistent and smooth, no sensation of revving away with no response. I can’t get it to do this to order, just happens occasionally.

Yes mines done that a couple of times over the years. Never noticed whether it coincided with a hill or not? It's never developed into a problem so just ignored it.
