Chunky tyre tread. 4WD perhaps? Subaru of some kind? Looks like a section of a canal boat has been welded to the back end. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

It's a Matra Simca Rancho and not 4x4, the front end is French tin and rusted extremely well, the rear is GRP, some were converted to be caravanettes, all were 3 door. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I once had a Talbot Horizon it rusted away while you were sleeping and always without fail sounded like a bag of spanners.

sorry but I have to inform you .......... its not a Matra Simca Talbot Rancho ......... it's a Vauxhall !
although the conversion was based on a Rancho.

You could be right, the bonnet is very Vauxhaul and it predates the Rancho by ten years if the registration is correct the problem is the twin headlights, if it was based on the Velox they only had single headlights, maybe a Holden ute modified my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Well done to Dartman, he correctly spotted the Holden connection.

The base vehicle is a UK built Vauxhall Viva saloon (2dr).

The Holden part is the twin sealed beam lamp grille only used on the Envoy Epic, but was a direct (outline) swap for the HB viva grille.

The bonnet is a frame from a HB Viva, but bent and winged with a Cresta outer skin. The wings were double mounted to give the raise and box shape at the front.
Front and rear bumpers from a Fiat Mirafiori, those big rubber corners Laughing

The rear top hat section is TWO Hillman Husky ( Imp van) turned to face each other welded together and mounted on the rear.

The boot had a split tailgate and Range Rover Classic rear lamps.

The whole thing was steel, no fibreglass rear ends like the Rancho.

Its 40 years since I built this one. I was young and didn't have much money in those days Sad Sad
