Yes a full size alloy spare should fit in the well, the jack etc sits beneath this in a expanded foam holder. |

Thanks, that probably explains a FL2 I saw on autotrader today. It quoted a tyre kit and a full sized alloy spare, but I did notice in the photo of the boot, that the floor was not flush and there was about an inch gap all round. |

Mine was supplied with an optional full size alloy spare - I have upgraded to Evoque wheels and also have a fifth alloy which fits in the recess without any problems.

If the spare is standard size (any diameter) and is stowed correctly the floor will fit properly. There is a bolt with an adjustable collar that fits through the wheel centre and jack. When screwed in this supports the floor at the correct height. The collar is screwed down to secure the wheel. The comment about the DS is correct. A skinny spare can be factory fitted below the floor, but can't be retrofitted. If the car is supplied as a five seater you can have a full-size spare in the well where the rear seats (3rd row) would have been. In the UK this option is only available in a very small number of configurations - for most versions it's not an option. There is some suggestion that you can remove the rear seats and fit a spare wheel, but I haven't yet seen a complete conversion (there might be a market there for someone to do it). I’m sure this must have been covered before, but I can’t find it amongst the many spare wheel threads...

My full size spare wheel, which my TOPix Vehicle Summary says was factory supplied, is identical to my other tyres and wheels.

Two different spares were supplied. One is a same-pattern alloy wheel and tyre. The other is a 17" steel wheel with tyre. Sometimes these tyres are the same size (mine was) but sometimes slightly different. no-one seems to know why. Even if you have 18" wheels, the spare will be 17" The choice you have is a) keep the current wheel and tyre - they are OK to use in an emergency b) keep the current wheel, put the correct size tyre on and try to sell the existing tyre on e-bay c) keep a look out on here for a correct size and pattern alloy wheel. This WILL fit in the spare tyre well. If you find one, you have the choice of keeping the tyre it comes with or buying a new tyre. What I did was adopt c), then when time came to buy new tyres I used the best of my (now) five wheels as spare and put 4 new tyres on the other wheels. I gave away the steel wheel to another forum member. Not sure what was going on there. Ive got a 235/55/R19 tyre on a standard alloy wheel, jack kit, towing rope, trailer tie down ropes, jump leads and detachable tow ball all in the boot wheel space and the lid fits flush. Jules |
