United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Barolo Black
New owner - Quick question

All,

I picked up my HSE SD4 yesterday, really enjoying it.
I have noticed a piece of loose trim around the rear wheel, between the outer wing and wheel arch liner. It is foam / rubber and seems to be a seal between the wing and liner. It has come loose at one end. I've not tried to push it back in yet but on checking the other side the trim is missing completely. I've tried to show this on a photo. Anyone know if this is easy to replace and what part I would need to ask for from the dealer (assuming it's a dealer only part?).

I've probably got more questions to ask, really appreciate any guidance!

Cheers,

Hiya ! It's a common issue . The piece is actually a plastic covered metal extrusion . It clips over the wheel arch and you bend it to shape as you fit it . The problem is that over time muck, wet, and salt can get inside it and make it " blow" . They are around £50 to do all 4 wheel arches which needs a 6 piece set ( each rear needs 2 different pieces) if I remember correctly when I replaced them on my wife's car . If you pm Dan at Duckworth on this forum he can get you a set ,( just ask for wheel arch trim) , or your local dealer will probably have them on the shelf they are such a common " fault "

Before you replace them take the opportunity to get rid of any " crud " trapped on the lip they attach to Thumbs Up 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Thanks for that, most appreciated. Looks like I've found my first job!! I guess you just loosen the liner then the seal fits in between?

Yes it's just pull off and push new one on but check for corrosion before putting new one on or just get to the point like me when you don't bother about them,I'm sceptical if they serve any real purpose,EBay do a similar rubber strip much cheaper than LR but I've not tried them.

Thanks, I'll give it a good clean and check for any corrosion, not sure how long they have been missing. Is stuff like this covered in the Haynes manual? Is it worth getting? Going to be servicing and doing most stuff on it myself.

Cheers.
