My tailgate high mounted stop lamp is loose

2014 FL2

Ive just noticed that the tailgate high mounted stop lamp can be very easily slid up and down (2-3mm) whilst still seemingly fully located in place by its clips. Never noticed this before. I cant imagine its very watertight in its current state.

Is it the same on other FL2 s ?

Im thinking I might take it off and improve the seal with silicone.

Any thoughts ? Jules

Very common. Look up water leak in Search function and you'll get lots of info. Silicone grease on the seal helped with mine

Thanks - Yes I suppose having 1 of the 5 Freelanders that Ive owned with a loose stoplamp would be considered common. Just not come across it before.

I didnt search under "water leak" because I dont have a water leak, yet Very Happy

Its all about the getting the right search terms. Jules

What I did when the seal started leaking was cut two small pieces out of the wife's credit card & place them between the clips & the body just to make the seal fit tighter. Has not leaked again for years & saved me a fortune
Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Maybe, Deano, within discussions but when I searched using "tailgate stop lamp" I got only 8 results, none of which were relevant to my query about it being loose. So you can see why I thought it not common. Jules

ah ah You're probably right about the correct search term. This leaky stop light thing was very familiar to me and is the only thing that niggled in 4 years.of ownership. Still put on the grease now and again Very Happy

Thats pretty good - to have only one niggle in 4 years of ownership.
Like you I've not had major issues with my Freelanders either. Jules

Still worried about rear diff and haldex though after reading endlessly about them.. Might be ok on a 2014 one Whistle
Have moved from main dealer servicing to Indy now so less of the doctors surgery -'we've found this issue' now.
