After all the bad news lately, finally something positive

Well we have certainly been through the mill over the last couple of years as my dads health deteriorated until he passed away last week with the funeral to follow on the 28th.

I've been car shopping (good timing with the loss of power I posted about) because I thought sod it, who knows what's around the corner and my old diesel Golf is basically an enemy of the state now!

So I wanted something nice but cheap to run and I only do 8k miles per year so I wanted petrol. So after a very impressive test drive, I have purchased an Audi A3 sportback 1.2 TFSI (105 ps) SE in shiraz red from Derby Audi.

Its done 39k and has shed loads of extras. Its a 6 speed manual which is very slick and it has the comfort pack with things like acoustic glass to shield you from outside noise. It is very nippy indeed which contradicts the engine size and power figures and is ridiculously smooth and quiet. Other features include the panoramic glass roof and keyless entry and start. Love the screen that slides up out of the dashboard.

Only £30 to tax for the year and I just wish my dad could have seen it. He had a 2012 A4 Avant and loved Audi's full stop. I was very impressed by the interior and the real feeling of quality throughout.

I just need to be the exception to the Audi bellend drivers rule now! Laughing LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

The A3 is a nice car. We are thinking of getting rid of the Evoque and Diesel Golf and getting a 1.4 COD A3 for Deb to go to work in and a 2WD Kuga for dog duties and Derbyshire holidays. Think I might enjoy one more winter with the Evoque first though. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Present: Audi A3 S Line.

Thanks guys Thumbs Up The A3 certainly gets rave reviews and the salesman said he had not seen one at their dealership with so many extras on. It's a 13 plate which I neglected to mention above. I also get 2 free services as part of the deal, GAP insurance and Autoglym lifeshine inside and out.

In a moment of absent mindedness, I forgot to take pictures thinking I could lift them from the website but they removed it straight away. I collect it on Tuesday so I'll post some then.

In the meantime, I am flogging the Michelin CrossClimate tyres on my Golf that have only seen about 5k miles. 195 65 R15 so PM me if interested, they are on eBay at the moment. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

England 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Santorini Black

my son currently drives an Audi A5 2.0 Tdi SLine convertible but as he has just bought a Labrador puppy it wont be long before it cant fit in the boot Laughing
so he is looking at an A3 Sportback as he reckons the boot is really big but typically he wants an S3 Quattro !! they do look to be really nice cars and of all the Audi models I think the interior is the best by a long shot.

having said all that he really liked driving my FL2 Auto and reckons he can live without the outright hooligan speed in favour of refined comfort and an even bigger boot Rolling with laughter

Here's some pictures. Well pleased with it and will be going through the various options on the settings menu to see what's what.

Check your insurance Dave re the pan roof. I don’t know if it’s the same on Audi's but I had to shop around for the insurance with the pan roof on our Evoque. I went with LV. It costs a couple of grand to replace. Many companies want to put it on the body insurance so a hefty excess (£600 in my case) plus loss of NCD unless protected. LV puts it on the glass insurance so £140 excess and NCD unaffected. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Thanks for the heads up. My insurer (AA) said no increase in premium for the new car (I am half way through my policy term) but I'll phone them tomorrow to specifically point out the roof. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby
