If you search you will find quite a lot of information already. I have used Halfords high output which consistently only lasted a month or two, Osram Nightbreakers which seem to last 3 or 4 months ish

Best option for durability is probably to use a standard output branded bulb and accept that the light output is pretty poor

Hi All

I upgraded my headlights (HB3) from standard to Philips WhiteVision over the weekend. As mentioned its a really quick process i think it only took me about 10mins to do both. I have yet to take the car out in the evening so i cant comment on any improvement just now - but will report back here to update once i do. I must say that with the lights on in daylight they do not look as bright or white as id hoped but as long as they are an improvement at night that's all that matters.

Headlight bulbs

Hi

I have a freelander 2 gs on a 62 plate and need to replace main headlight bulb the LR dealership quoted 50.

So I will have a go myself just want to confirm they are an H7 bulb and is it easy to do?

Thanks

The lamp lens should be imprinted with the bulb type. H7, HB3 or whatever. Removal of the headlight assembly is easy. 2 x 10mm bolts, lift the latch lever on the back & pull forward, disconnect the multiplug, remove & do the job on the kitchen table.

My nearside went recently after having it replaced last year by Farnell Landrover.
This time they replaced the bulb and said that there was a wiring upgrade that could be fitted to stop further bulb failures,
they said they would fit this upgrade free of charge, but as they did not have any in they would notify me when they come in. This was some 5 weeks ago, and I am still waiting.
They did not charge me for the bulb replacement. One Discovery, gone
Now on third Freelander 2

Freelander2 2013 2.2 XS - My lights stopped working tonight (didn't notice at first) - no dipped or full beam. Stripped out per instructions (easy peasy) and confirmed 1x Halogen bulb blown - the other looks fine - but both headlights were out..?
I think I'll need to buy two just in case but are they wired so they both go out - or should I check if a fuse has gone?

Main Beam

Hello all,

I have read through a lot of the posts on lights here(the joys of a quiet shift), but as they lots of differences with new bulbs over the years, I may have missed something.

In Spring one of the bulbs in our car popped so I took the opportunity to replace all of them, following the handbook and the the stores website using my Number plate I ordered 2 sets of Osram Nightbreaker 130 H7s, only to discover when looking at the actual headlight i needed the H7s and H11. So back went a set of H7s and in return a set of H11s appeared, I cant remember which ones they were but I do remember thinking they were less than the 130%s.

With the long days we didn't really get a chance to use them, but "noo the nights are fair drawing in" we have since tried to use the Main Beams to find them utterly useless. I can see they have turned on as the light in front of the car is marginally brighter, and I subsequently checked to make sure they were all working, as well as checking that the bulbs are seated properly. The car has also gone in for an MOT and service and no mention was made of the headlights or the alignment.

So my question really is, have I missed something, or as the main beams are of a lower % than the dipped beam is this to be expected?

Thanks
Alex

Basically the FL2 headlights are crap. Uprated bulbs are available but having tried some one soon blew and surge gave me reduced power message and limp mode. So often outside built up areas in really poor weather at night my fogs get used as well. Also FL2 lights flicker in strength as car copes with the power demands of all its toys..

Xenon users ignore the above:

I went on Halfords website and they do not list Halogen bulbs for dipped lights, so clearly they have experienced lots of problems with replacements. 2013 GS Baltic Blue - part exchanged now for Volvo V40

H11 or HB3

I checked my handbook and it states the dipped/main bulb is HB3. When I go on supplier websites they all state H11 for dipped bulbs.

I wondered if LR have changed the spec to reduce heat and exploding bulbs? 2013 GS Baltic Blue - part exchanged now for Volvo V40
