As far as I am aware, the PTC heater only comes on when the PROG button is pressed, unless anyone knows differently of course. ______________________

I don`t have the definitive reply, `cause I can`t be bothered to go out to the car and get the manual, BUT since the fuse was pulled on the PTC heater, the availability of warm air straight after start up is non existent, whereas warmth was available almost immediately before, without using any special demist prog buttons, so I reckon it works on demand, automatically. Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!

I phoned my dealer today (Conwy Land Rover) to book the FL2 in for the new aux heater parts to be fitted. I was told the parts are not in stock and not expected until mid January. I explained other dealers had them. They asked me to phone back after Christmas. Confused
Has anybody else phoned Conwy Land Rover over this?

Just called T&C (Aberdeen) and my car is booked in for a multiple fix visit.

Advised that the part is on order and 18th as a provisional date for receipt. If it is in T&C will fit it then.

Seems LR are stocking up south to north?

For clarity: Does the PROG button neeed to be pressed for the Aux Heater to cut in? I thought it was automatic on start up until the colant reaches required temp?.

No the PTC (electric) heater is not automatic. You need to press the PROG button to turn it on/off.

The Auxiliary heater, which is a fuel burning heater is the automatic one which comes on when the temp drops below a certain level. ______________________

Just had a look at the manual , If the ptc is activated by pressing PROG how does it work on the 'S' model that has no prog button? surely the heater is automatic? At work

From the handbook it states.

AUXILIARY HEATER
Your vehicle may be fitted with an auxiliary
heater which is powered by fuel drawn from the
vehicle's tank. The heater only operates at low
ambient temperatures, and is fully automatic.

No mention of pressing prog button. Freelander2 GS TD4 Manual in Lago Grey Smile .Roof Mount DVD 9.2''Screen~Window Tints~Parrot CK3100 Bluetooth~Retro Fit Sony Satnav~iPhone Dashmount~Side Steps~Woodco Armrest~Mudflaps~Land Rover Sunglass Holder~LED Interior Lights~Private Plate.Evoque Collected 17th Sept 2012.

Perhaps the "S" model doesn't have the ptc (defrost) heater fitted Question ______________________

Sounds strange to me, since before the fuse was pulled heat was pretty instantaneous, and afterwards it now takes ages to warm up. And as just about everything else in the car is (or can be) automatic, it seems odd that this wouldn't be.

So I looked in the manual Smile

For the automatic CC, the 'Prog' button is described as: "Maximum defrost program, press to switch on/off," which is later explained as: "Maximum defrost program Press to remove frost or heavy misting from the front screen. The system will automatically adjust the blower output for maximum clearing, in addition the front and rear screen heaters will be activated. Press again to switch off defrost mode. The screen heaters will remain on." (No mention of PTC heater)

In fact the only mention of PTC in the entire manual is in the fuse list!

Do you have a reference that confirms that the PTC heater is only activated in defrost mode?

I think the electric/defrost function was refered to in the recall notice as a "PTC Heater" and I think because it is a ceramic heater which is often refered to as a PTC heater.

You're right in saying that the manual refers to it as a defrost function and as far as I am aware it is only activated when you press the "PROG" button.

I certainly get no heat coming through the vents in my car untill the engine has warmed up. ______________________
