Just waiting for the next frosty morning to test it fully Laughing

EDIT:

Forgot to say that T&C have the Def 90 SVX in their showroom so was drooling over that before I collected the car, looks well nice..........just a wee bit out of my price range by about 30K Laughing ______________________

2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Tonga Green

Hello Everybody,

I am hopefully getting my PTC electric heater exchanged in January here in Podgorica.
Fortunately it is not cold at all here at the moment , but for my curiosity, there is the open qustion about the functioning of the electric heater (not the extra auxiliary fuel heating device):

Does the electric heater (PTC, ceramic,...you name it) function automatically when starting the engine or do I have to switch on the "progr." button, which activates then front and rear window defrosting system as well ?

Best regards

According to the manual you have to press the PROG button to turn it on. No mention of it being automatic. Rolling Eyes ______________________

In normal auto setting the blower fan doesn't start running fast until there is enough heat in the engine so avoiding blowing cold air into the cabin, so maybe Idea it needs a manual fan setting to blow air over the ptc , pressing prog would do this, as would turning up the fan speed dial.
Just a thought, I cant test this until I have my new heater fitted Confused At work

I'm getting exactly the same - no prog button but warm air even when the engine is cold (within a couple of minutes). While the heater was disconnected I noticed it blowing cold air as if it "thought" the heater was still working.

It will be automatic. Whilst the cabin warming up quickly is a nice by-product, it isn't actually why the heater is there. Modern diesels are very "heat efficient" or to put it another way, left to their own devices in the cold weather, they don't warm up Laughing.
So the aux heater is there to help warm up the engine and consequently LR aren't going to give you the option of turning it off.
They're pretty much std fit on all diesels these day. I'd imagine they are thermostatically controlled with some safety gizmo to stop them firing up with the battery is low. 07 Freelander 2 TD4SE Tambora Flame, side steps, privacy glass, mud flaps, boot liner and a tow bar. Ok it's the Wifes but she lets me drive it occasionally - if I've been good!

I thought the aux heater just warms the cabin air that's why its in the same space as the air-con parts, so leading to condensation problems resulting in the recall.

Im referring to the electric one not the fuel burning heater At work
