Potential oil leak?

Hi everyone. I'm planning on getting a used freelander 2 and looked at one today. They only issue I can see from it is a potential oil leak. See pic. There was no oil on the floor but appears to be droplets on the plastic cover.

Is this something I should be worried about or avoid like the plague?!

Thanks in advance

Difficult to give an accurate diagnosis without taking off the cover. It could be something as simple as the intake hose that runs along the top rear of the engine leaking at the join (very common and is fixed by changing clip to a jubilee type) or it could be leaking elsewhere and running along the cover. There doesn't appear to be a huge amount of oil there though, have you asked if you could take the cover off and have a look, it's a simple enough job to do and unless the seller has something to to hide I don't see why they would object

The seller is genuine enough I would think, if it was a crook the cover would have been spotless.

A pan like that will catch some oil as servicing done etc so unless its dripping like crazy say between engine and gearbox its probably nothing to get too excited about. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

there is a sound deadening blanket attached to the inside of the steel pan and it will possibly be saturated with oil, so you need to have the pan removed to see the extent of the oil leak.
