England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Tonga Green

Hi All..

The installations are looking great!

I've been using a TomTom Go 60 for a couple of years now but found recently that it's struggling to find the satellites to get a positional lock.

Has anyone any experience of this? Started to look at satnav units that can have external antenna attached but there aren't many to choose from with the required 6" screen. 2002 Honda VFR800

Yep, got the exact same problem with mine.
It now keeps searching for satellites for maybe up to half an hour.
When it does find them and locks on, it then loses them again.
Though I can go for a complete trip without picking up any satellites.
Renders the Tom Tom totally useless.

This problem only happend after I did the 'essential' upgrade that enables quicker satellite location. Rolling Eyes

Totally p!sed off with Tom Tom ... and as usual not been able to find a UK support desk!

edited to add - eventaully after going around in circles, I've managed to get an email to their support desk.
Just need to wait and see if they respond!

Now you mention the upgrade! It did start to happen once I'd done the 'essential' update.

I'm now wondering if the GarmiNow you mention the upgrade! It did start to happen once I'd done the 'essential' update.

I'm now wondering if the Garmin that has Booktrunk has installed might be a better choice!!!

I've just removed my TomTom from the dash and refitted the cubby as I was fed up with it just looking for sats. 2002 Honda VFR800

Guessing that you plug your TOMTOM into a laptop/PC via USB cable to update.

is there anyway to roll the update back to the previous version ? definitely sounds like a software bug in the 'upgrade' patch

Yep I plug the USB into my laptop for updates using TomTom's upgrade application.

There doesn't appear to be an obvious way to downgrade the system software! 2002 Honda VFR800

Problem for me is that I no longer have a laptop [just PC and iPad].
So I have to strip out the dash everytime I want/need to update!

Not sure if it quite the same thing but a few years ago our farmers could not do any work between 2 & 4 pm as no satellites were available to sow seeds etc as it is all automated! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Was that the time when the BBQ was ready?

These problems are happening at all times of the day and night - I suspect it's more of a software issue. 2002 Honda VFR800

After the 'update' I'm suspecting that the Tom Tom is now weaker in pulling in the signal.
Not helped by the fact we've built ours into the dash.
Simont, as yours is out, have/can you try it mounted/sitting on top of the dash to see if it picks up sats easier?

guaranteed its a bug in the upgrade software....

they will need to develop and release another patch update to fix the bug....but if they don't acknowledge there was a fault in their upgrade you will have very little choice but to buy a new Nav unit.

Hi,

Funny, I had the same problem with my TomTom Start about a year ago. I did an update and afterwards it was very quick in finding the satellites. No problems anymore.

Good Luck

OK, got a response from Tom Tom.
Basically there's three options:
1 - Factory re-set from your screen [which I had already done several times to no avail].
2 - Soft Reset
3 - Software restore.

Content and links from their email here:-

"As we are looking forward to resolve the issue, I would suggest you to perform factory reset and soft reset on your device and plan a route and test.

Step 1 - Factory Reset your device:
To perform a factory reset, please follow the steps I have mentioned:
Recommended: To take backup of Favourites before Factory reset as they will be deleted in the process.
- From your Main Menu of your device, tap Settings option.
- Click the right arrow key and navigate till you see Reset Factory Settings.
- Select it and click Yes.
- Select Full reset. (Note: It will delete all your settings and local data).
- While doing the factory reset, when prompted to select a language, perform a soft reset on your navigation device.

Step 2 - Soft Reset:
To reset your device:
- >Press and hold the On/Off button until you hear the drum sounds and the device restarts. This can take 30 seconds or more.
If the issue persist please restore the software on your device(Recovery Mode)

Step 3 - RESTORE THE SOFTWARE ON YOUR NAVIGATION DEVICE USING MYDRIVE CONNECT

I trust the information mentioned above will be helpful to get you a resolution. Please let me know the outcome after performing the above troubleshooting steps and I will be happy to help you further".

There's a dedicated tomtom forum which tomtom monitors and does reply to questions. https://en.discussions.tomtom.com MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE
