South Africa 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Fuji White

[quote="dunkley201"]Hi MCJ
I see your motor is SD4. There may be some difference then. Maybe LR changed the model of gearbox and ATF type in the SD4. I suggest you double check by querying the part number. A call to Dan at Duckworth Parts may clarify things. It is not unknown for LR to change the part number without notice! I will amend the title of this thread to "TD4" Thanks for advising me.

Let us know the result of your enquiry.

Hello Bob attached is the part number clarification.

Hi MCJ. That message is not too clear to me as it shows no differentiation between TD4 and SD4 which was your original question. Who is the message from?

Hello Bob

Message is from http://www.freelanderspecialist.com/. I was with the hope that your part number was compatible with the SD4 so I could save cash buying a mobile ATF instead of the dealer that cost here 200% more however I sourced from LR independent that uses Fuchs TITAN ATF 4400 Automatic Transmission Fluid for Japanese cars that they use with success and he recommended that I also buy from him Dr. Tranny® Instant Shudder Fixx™ Here link with information http://www.lubegard.com/~/C-230/Instant+Shudder+Fixx.

The Fuchs TITAN ATF 4400 comes in 20L he mentioned telephonically that Will I drain 7L then add 7L ATF and the Instant Shudder Fixx Then drive 150k then drain and add the 7L last litter.
I'm curious To know how will I get 7L out at once and will confirm the instructions when I visit them tomorrow.

I will also ask them about TD4 SD4 ATF difference

Drain and fill 7L can only be done by disconnecting a pipe to the cooler and doing a "running" change or drain and fill at the same time. Special equipment is needed for this. Not so easy for the DIY mechanic.

Had my oil changed last week at 68,000 miles. Techie said oil was burnt.

Take off from rest is so much more responsive and smoother now. Down changes also smoother Smile LR Freelander 2 2014 metropolis SD4 auto in Loire Blue.

That Titan type IIIG is no longer shown on the fuchs.si website I found. If it is equivalent to Fuchs Titan ATF4400 it looks to be right. The ATF specs are so complicated!

Edit: Titan IIIG is not correct. Titan ATF4400 has the appropriate specs (T-IV & JWS3309) for TD4 MY07-12.

I spoke with their head office is South Africa they say it's fine for the car but 4400 is more advanced so I will use this 20L until I get a clean ATF draining out then by 160,000k service I will start using the 4400.

BTW speaking about specs I want to do the transfer box but can't find oil with 75W-90 GL5 but I can get 75w-90 GL4. Can I use it?

Not sure about that. Presumably a GL5 has benefits GL4 does not have. Maybe look elsewhere.

MCJ
That ATF you put is quite inadequate for our boxes...
The box uses a slip-controlled lock-up torque converter clutch and the oil quality and proprieties are quite specific.
You can say that this type of autoboxes have an oil type on its own. It is equivalent with Toyota Type IV (T-IV) fluid and only that.
Better use the recommended oil or you risk wearing out the TC clutch quite rapidly.

As per GL5 oil, you can read this topic and see there various oils that are GL5: http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic29861.html

Thanks for the clarification on ATFs Alex. I was uncomfortable about that Titan IIIG as I could not link it to the AW or Toyota specs. Useful re the GL5 oils too.👍 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Here's a material from our Russian colleagues forum, about automatic oil change.
Is from a seminar, where Mr. Kata Sun, vice-president (at that time) of Aisin Europe, has told the participants a lot of things about Aisin autoboxes.
For the record, our autobox is of Aisin origin.
The translation is not perfect, but you will get perfectly the ideas of the autobox's manufacturer and not LR, the one that uses the box.

The topic on the Russian forum, "to change or not the oil until 10 years / 240000 km", more than 200 pages, here: http://lr-club.com/index.php?showtopic=25868

Thank you Alex. I do like that useful presentation from Kata-San.

"That is, I summarize: if you have a Volvo, Peugeot or Citroėn with a six-speed automatic, boldly pour there atefku of any famous manufacturer. The main thing is that it would have the tolerance T-WS, or T4. Well, or 3309, or 3324. Everything else is from the evil one."

In our case,(TD4 Auto to MY2011) that is, T4 (IV) or 3309. Everything else is from the evil one. Rolling with laughter

Up until MY2011, T-IV (JWS3309), later cars T-WS (JWS3324).
The difference between them is that T-WS is fully synthetic and a little thinner (low viscosity) than T-IV that is mineral based and a little thicker (high viscosity).
This because later boxes have that auto-neutral feature and need a more heavy duty oil.
