I have had the dealer rebalance the wheels to no good effect. At 70mph the steering wheel and the whole car vibrate like a massaging chair, at 80mph I cannot hold onto the wheel at all. Any thoughts? Anyone with a similar situation??

possible drive shaft problem, or wheel bearing etc

i would call LR and get it in to the garage until they find the solution

Is it a new FL2 or second hand If so were did it come. It was a brand new car from the dealer just 2 months ago. The wheels were re-balanced off the car I imagine, I didn't know there was a difference. But in any event they did put another set of wheels on it and it vibrated just the same, so they think it is not the wheels.

balancing the wheels while still on the car can be more accurate as it also balances the brake disc and drive, but I dont think it will help in your case At work

Had this problem on my '07 FL2 and was told by the LR dealer that it was a build up of brake dust on the handbrake drum causing the handbrake to go out of adjustment.
I found this hard to believe but when I had the problem again a few weeks ago I pulled over pulled the handbrake on and off a few times and hay presto the problem disapeared .
Give it a go it might cure it.

Hard to believe, but I will try anything. Will report back. I do utilize the handbrake whilst parking.

just read your post, if the wheels have been re balanced, they should have spotted any build up of brake dust , i'd go with the suggestion from one of the other members and call landrover recovery Don't drive the car again until the steering rack and suspension arms have been checked!!


My last freelander did this once but that had been through some serious deep mud an it had built up all around the front wheels. Just needed a wash but yours sounds serious.....

Well this did not work for me. I have an appointment at the dealers on Tuesday. I am still very concerned. Again the problem only arises at 70mph+, it is fine around town, which makes this very strange!

Is the vibration through the entire car or is it only through the steering? Do you have roof bars or anything on the roof? I recently fitted an after market roof rack and the whole car would vibrate when at highway speeds until I fitted the wind deflector. I really was surprised just how much the car would vibrate. Just something else for you to check.

I do not have a roof rack. The vibration is primarily through the steering wheel, but I can also feel heavy vibration in the driveshaft below the car and the center stack of the car vibrates too, but worst is the steering wheel for sure. I have a feeling that the driveshaft is slightly bent.

You'd think if it is drive train related it would not be related to the speed of the vehicle. Maybe the brake discs are not balanced? Anyway let us know what the dealer says when they solve it.
