hi sievester have you tried swapping the front wheels to the rear and the rears to the front and see if this eliminates the problem

The dealers put a whole new set of wheels on the car and it"s the same so we've ruled out the wheels themselves.

You'd think if it is drive train related it would not be related to the speed of the vehicle. Maybe the brake discs are not balanced? Anyway let us know what the dealer says when they solve it.

Surely it could be drive train, i.e. drive shaft, if it's speed related, as going at 70 + would cause a slightly bent drive shaft to vibrate lots more, and cause a problem, where as at slow speeds, the vibration wouldn't be as noticable.

Also, it the vibrating drive shaft vibrates at the correct frequency at 70+, then this could easily be this, although, as with all problems like this, it could be anything moving on the car, that vibrates at the correct frequency, that would get worse at 70+.

Out of interest, has the dealer agreed that it happens, and can they recreate it reliably, every time? If so, I'd be tempted to hand the car over to them, agree to get a good (i.e. FL2 at least if not D3 for the hassle) courtesy car, and keep that car, until they have fixed yours. And every time, take your car for a test drive, and keep the keys to the courtsey car with you. This way they have more of an incentive to fix it, you can also, if your so inclined, set them a 1 month time limit, and advise them that if they can't fix it within this time, you'd like them to buy back the car, or replace it. You may have to put it in writing to the dealer manager, so they know exactly where they stand, and where you stand.

Hope this helps

Rich

Exactly why I think it might be a bent driveshaft, because in the city the truck feels normal. The dealer can recreate every time, anyone driving it can feel this, it's quite strong. Really quite bizarre. I'm giving them the car again on Tuesday.

One other person has sent me an email with the exact same problem as well, I wonder if there may be a larger product defect.

Dealer tells me now that he has seen 'at least a half-dozen' with this same problem. Does not know what's causing it and has no guidance from Land Rover. In the States you have to take it to the dealers for 3-4 times (4 times in my area) before you can ask for a buyback, so I have 3 more trips to the dealer ahead of me unfortunately.

Dealer has now given up. Says I must apply to Land Rover USA for a buyback. Says that will take 2-3 months! Terrible...

It appears now that I may have to hire an attorney. I'll never buy another Land Rover again, that's for sure.

Hi Peeps,

i am having the same problem. Been through several mud occassions. And the steering vibrates a little till i wash the mud away from wheels.

This time round it wasnt so forgiving. Vibrations were too vigorous as if it has a broken axle! Went down check it out and nothing seems damaged. This occurs only when acceleration/deceleration. Suspect left hand drive shaft.

I am bringing it to LR and see what they have to say.

if you have gone through mud

i would look at the wheel weights, you could have shed them, causing the wheel to be unbalanced Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Anyone with this problem has it solved and how?

Mine is for the third time at the dealers for vibration. It's not as heavy as described above, but sure annoying.

On first visit they said the car was normal and done nothing, on second wheels balanced, and this helped a bit with low speed problems. But still having vibration over 120 km/h.

Today the technician mentioned about the axles might be the cause. I am waiting for a call from them about the outcome. 2010 Freelander 2 Select TD4 auto....gone

With my dealings so far to date dont seem to know their hands from their arse. There are many things that would cause the viberation at speed, the most common ones would be wheels out of balance, faulty tyres.
Going deeper i would start looking at faulty steering track rod end ball joints, you can use a small crowbar between the ball joint and the strut and gently wiggle to see if there is any movement there shouldnt be any.
Brake discs can some times be warped from new. try braking lightly and see if it feels its grabbing then letting go repeatedly.
faulty streering rack, lots of play on the steering wheel. drive shafts could be out of balance,it only takes one to throw every thing out. Universal joints faulty, again there should be no freeplay in them.
some of these things you can check your self but others would need to be removed and tested by landrover.
On such a new car it will be almost 100% faulty parts and you should fight tooth and nail for your rights. If they cant fix it its not fit for purpose reject the car untill fixed or they offer you a replacement Good luck Bow down Thumbs Up
