Where did you acquire yours from if you don't mind me asking?
Sorry i don't know how to reply direct to any one yet?
Still getting to grips with this...Im a bit of a computer cave man at this but i'll get there lol.

Thanks for the replys
Thumbs Up

The swap out headlamps came off eBay £200 the pair.

The bumper mounted lamps are an official LR part and again came off eBay £40 the pair. The lamps give you a driving lamp (large outer lamp) and use your original fog lamp (inner smaller lamp).

Scotland 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Santorini Black

Really??thats a great deal!!wow!!

I'm struggling to find a set anywhere,im not paying silly prices anyway!

I didn't know that about the upgrades they made.
Was that the case for the 2011 SD4 models also?
I was told that its the same engine throughout the line. From the parts book, the engine, turbo, brakes everything was the same.Apart from some differences to do with the ECU?
That engine shouldn't be run at 150.Its the top rating most beneficial model to be remapped on a w wheel drive?
The XS is great because it comes with basically the same accessories as the HSE but a good bit cheaper.
Do you prefer the auto to manual?
I love manuals always have done and would never dream of buying an auto car before, but with this car i wish i did.
going up and down the gears seems a bit daft with the arm rests to me?
Was your gear box a bit rough?
I've had mine checked over by land rover and they said its fine.
i just find it a bit sticky in 1st and 2nd sometimes? Its not crunching or anything like that, just a bit nippy lol
I had a Navara before this car and the gear box on that thing was a doddle!
Just more of a natural feel to it.

cheers for the reply

England 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Santorini Black

Ive had TD4 Manual and TD4 Auto FL2
Ive had SD4 Manual Evoque (exactly the same mechanicals as the FL2)
Ive now got SD4 Auto FL2.

FL2 TD4 are 160bhp and SD4 are 190bhp

The SD4 190 not only has different mapping to the TD4 160, it also has different turbo components and other mechanicals to cope with the extra 40bhp. The torque figures are the basically the same regardless of TD4 or SD4.

Having said that, the TD4 can be safely remapped to kick out 190bhp, as long as its done correctly. There are a lot of generic remaps and inexperienced keyboard warriors out there who don't do it safely within the vehicle limits. (if in doubt speak to Alive tuning who specialise in Land Rovers)

The difference between manual and auto is night and day. The manual gearbox (when its all working right) can be a bit notchy, particularly in 1st and 2nd. This is apparently to give a firm positive gear change when off roading as those are really the only gears you will use.

However the manuals are known to have major issues with the dual mass flywheel and clutch set up. Its an extremely weak point so in my opinion (and quite a few others on here) the Auto is the best option in both FL2 and Evoque. Not all cars have the problem, but there are a lot that have.

But all that aside..... can I have your alloys because they look incredible Laughing Whistle

enjoy your FL2, they are great motors no matter what Thumbs Up

Also if you have a warranty, it doesn't cover the clutch which is seen as a wear and tear item and can cost about £1k. Another reason I decided to go auto. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Hi mate,

Again thanks for the reply.
All information is appreciated! Thumbs Up
Yeah the guy i used is a friend at a very reputable Tuning company.
He took it to a happy medium about 180hp,and an efficient mpg level.
It deffinatly improved the flat spots though, but i must admit the gearbox is a bit of a let down!
I thought it was just a case of getting used to it when i first got it but...it think its just quite crap lol.Never mind!

Haha you like them bud? Their just the exact same as yours on your Evouqe mate, but i got them redone.I think they suit the car.

Why did you go back to a freelander from the evouqe if you don't mind me asking mate?

cheers

Hi mate.Ano so i hear...thats something to look forward too lol Rolling Eyes
I read under your profile your list of previous models of the car's you've owned, and the problems you've had with them.

In your opinion, would say the problems have been rectified throughout the years and models?i.e the gearbox and the model in general?
Why do you like them over other similar 4x4's?

Cheers bud

Mine was the Pure spec (entry) but 1st owner had added the 20'' Dynamic wheels

I loved the car and would have another, but it turned out the one I had bought from LR had been in an accident down the nearside and been badly repaired which the LR dealer had failed to pick up on. In 5 months of ownership it had new transfer box, new gearbox, new seals, new trim and then due to the box failures the clutch/flywheel needed replacing but warranty wouldn't cover the cost and LR wanted £1600 !! So after much arguing and trying to get back into an Evoque I was forced to go 'back' to a FL2. No bad thing but not what I really wanted. Ill probably see out my 2 year warranty on this and look to get another Evoque.

My son and I have had 5 between us, he is an agronomist and uses cars daily driving around farms inspecting crops. He thought that it was a great car but not tough enough for regular off road use and eventually moved to a Mitsubishi L200 pickup which did the job better (low range and diff lock), was a lot cheaper and actually very comfortable and well specified. He now works in Kenya and drives a Toyota Hilux. Two of our FL2s had gearbox problem where it wouldn't stay in 5th, we got rid of one and the other was fixed under warranty (sent to a specialist for rebuild) by LR.
Overall I have had good service from LR but I wouldn't own one of their cars without a LR backed warranty.
As to why I keep buying them, I recently looked at the opposition and almost bought a Hyundai Tucson but most cars in this class look identical (even the DS sport). This will be my last one but no idea where to go from here. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Sounds a absolute nightmare mate!

Do you think the accident was the cause of the troubles?Or just an unlucky example?
I love the look of them.Didnt when they first came out, but after owning a freelander i love them.Could be my next purchase.
Would you say its a better drive?

O.K i see.
Yeah and see what you mean, they say a freelander will go anywhere a defender will go off road.it just, doesnt seem as solid and able to take as much a beating as my old navara.(Without they wheels on of course).

I would agree that a pickup would be more suited Thumbs Up

thanks

Evoque is soo cramped even the 5 door feels smaller inside than a FL1 5 door. The FL2 just kills it size wise!

I'm single and could do with a coupe car etc but I still like a spacious interior. That's just me tho Whistle MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

Yes definitely all my problems with the Evoque were down to the accident damage. On further inspection there were further problems... bad paintwork with drips and bubbles, misaligned passenger door, damaged inside edge of front alloy,
If the LR dealer had done the approved used inspection properly they would have picked up on it all, they even failed to service it !! Unfortunately I could only go back to the same dealer to resolve but I had LR Customer service support on my side.
Yes it was definitely smaller than the the FL2, interior, boot, roof height the lot.... but its not pretending to be a FL2 either.
Ride was harder on the 20's but the suspension is stiffer on them anyway and it has a strut brace as standard to stiffen the body more.
But I would still have another one tomorrow.
