I expect my 3.2 to last to 400,000 KM or more

Currently I am at 170,000 KM

I've owned mine since new


Items that should have been done prior to 250,000 KM

1 - Spark-plugs at lease once

2 - Coolant change

3 - Accessory belt change

4 - Change over drive pulley for Alternator and also change the overdrive pulley for the accessories and possibly the READ oil seal

5 - Water pump - its a good idea to change this when doing the accessory belt

6 - Air conditioning clutch - the Volvo forums recommend changing this as well

7 - Brake Hoses - should be changed

8 - Power Steering fluid and Reservoir - the filter in the bottom of the reservoir can get clogged

9 - Haldex Fluid, Filter and Pump screen - this service should be preformed

10 - Automatic Transmission fluid flush

11 - Rear differential oil change - possibly replace the pinion bearing

12 - Power transfer unit oil should be changed

13 - Starter motor will likely need rebuilding or replacing by this point

14 - Shock and struts - typically wear out at this mileage

15 - Tie rod ends - Mine are worn and in need of replacement

16 - Fuses and grounds - I would replace every fuse and check all ground connections (otherwise expect electrical gremlins)


The list may seem long but the point is to look for a 3.2 with a well documented service history and consider the cost of the items listed above when you make your purchase.

If you are doing the work yourself the cost is not very high.

This site is very helpful so if you do have any problem post purchase I am sure that someone will be able to help.


On a final note: My 3.2 has been very reliable and it is very capable and enjoyable to drive and I will be completing all of the items listed above in the next year or two (most are already done)

say there is 433 cars on the road and 15 off.

My i6 has just done 105 000 miles and is running strong,
I do a oil change on it every year and only do 4000/5000 miles per year, Castrol oil for the car cost around £80 for 8 liters and £10 for a filter.

Only problems I've had was a hot start issue that was fixed with a ECU update and the AC compressor seized that snapped the AUX belt, I had to get a full new AC system that LR wanted £2000 for but managed to do a lot of internet searching and get it all and fitted for less than half that.
The book says the AUX belt needs changing at 105000 miles but mine went at around 102000.

I've got the ECU chipped, LPG, HST body kit and a cat back system on it.
Get about 60 MPG on gas to the same price as diesel (45p per liter gas compared to £1.25)
Got power from bottom to the top of the rev range but the gear box is a little slow to change, and the sound it makes from the half V12 makes it sound like a baby Lambo

Love my car to bits and would never sell it, think I would cry if it ever got written off.

5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Today I went to Germany to collect the car. Body needs some work but mechanically perfect. Had to drive 300K home so got a good impression of the car. Love that engine!

I've had an i6 for about three-and-a-half years.
Don't assume everything is same as TD4 - brakes, for instance, are higher-specification.
Like most people who've had an i6, I love mine. The quick brown fox

Just for clarity, the engine is actually a Ford engine not a Volvo engine. It's from the days when Ford owned Volvo and Land Rover and is fitted to some Volvo vehicles as well.

If you are strictly talking about the parent company then yes you are correct.

By that reasoning we are all driving around in a Ford (which is true but complete blasphemy)

However for most people they don't look at Land Rover and think Ford.

A few weeks back I stopped to help a Ford Mustang owner change a tire on the side of the road and I can guarantee you that he had no idea that my SUV is actually a Ford product.

Technically you are correct we do own a Ford product but I think it needs to be a lower case f as in ford because its just a little bit Ford. There is a lot more Gothenberg then there is Dearborn under the skin.

Apparently the relationship is even more complicated than I thought.

According to this article the 3.2 i6 is built at the Bridgend Plant

And I suspect if I was standing at the factory gate that it would say Ford

That is a good point

I did check the Welsh dictionary out of curiosity and there are a lot Welsh words for what I would describe as a "Ford across a river".

Although I have no idea how to pronounce “Rhyd� which I think is one of many translations for Ford.
