So presumably the French and Chinese are rubbing their hands at the prospect of building more power stations to supply the electricity for all these cars. We keep being told we are heading for an energy deficit because of the closure of fossil fuel power station and the lack of replacements. Andy

These proposals/plans also include various other measures to supposedly cut pollution such as removing speed bumps and programming traffic lights, but more worryingly measures to ban ICE vehicles from certain areas and/or to tax them for entering. So what really is behind this is taking the motorist to be cash cows to raise even more revenue from us. Then of course when we have all gone electric the government will jack up the tax on electricity, just as they did with diesel after they convinced us it was the way to go. Supporting this is the fact that nothing is being proposed to counter other polluters including the worst polluting vehicles - buses. Buses spend most of their time staionary with the engine running and pumping out fumes. The most polluted place in the UK is Oxford Street in London where cars are banned and it is buses and taxis only. Why not make buses use stop/start technology. Perhaps the only good thing to come out of this is that we will be less reliant on Arab oil.

Just wondering where the extra generating capacity will come from to power all this lot? Given the length of time and public enquiries to build anything in this country it's probably already too late for another couple of Hinckley Point power stations. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Yeah, but it's the middle eastern countries that have some of the best places to farm solar energy too ![]() |

This news beg some questions. Should consumers buy internal combustion or even a hybrid now or wait? If yes when? What about those who just bought their cars? What are the price of these cars in 10 or 15 years times?
