It's only the sale of new vehicles that will stop being sold from 2040, they're not actually banning petrol and diesel cars and vans from the roads isn't it? Old ones will be probably be allowed to carry on until they naturally expire so we might end up importing used cars from China or India. I predict best ever sales records of new cars in December 2039. Either that or we'll end up with the same car situation as Cuba - cars stuck in a time warp! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Believe its only the manufacture and sale of new petrol/diesel cars, so by the year 3000 the last combustion engine may well have given up.... just! |

any mention of airplanes and helicopters ? If its a pollution issue, only last week the papers suggested one plane flight wipes out 20 years of recycling, far worse than cars surely? Also stated within the last week the UK airspace is now at breaking point, too many flights. |

Not according to that article, which talks about moving to electric or hybrid vehicles. And the primary power source in a hybrid? Yup, petrol! So we'll still have petrol cars, they'll just be weighed down with batteries and electric motors too. And I rather suspect that other technologies will change things significantly long before 2040 - fuel cell vehicles look good if the problems with production, storage and transport of their fuel can be solved. |

£billions being invested into battery technology over the coming years. Dyson has bought a new site in Wiltshire, Hullavington, specifically to work on new concepts with battery technology high on the agenda. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Apparently Norway will ban diesel sales after 2025. That will affect sales immediately. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Think it is likely that electric will be the way for the future, battery or other storage for this, but am not convinced on the timing being muted for this. Suspect it will slip and will be some way off the 2040 date before it becomes a reality. |

My daughter used to own an old terrace house where the front door opened onto the pavement (sidewalk if you are in USA) and she had to park on the street outside. Often she would be parked 100yds away or even across the other side depending on if she got home early or not. So how do you charge your electric car in these situations? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Our local council were offering to install free charger units at all properties last couple of years. Unfortunately at the time my fuse box was too old (since upgraded) and I don't have a plug in car so it would be useless for me. |
