Locked out of Freelander?

Last week whilst in France on a really hot day (37C) I came back to the car and it wouldn't unlock. Luckily the tailgate would open so we got in that way and unlocked everything. Later in an attempt to sort out the problem I tried using the emergency key to lock/unlock the system but found that it was actually very difficult and fiddly to get the cover off the passenger door to access the manual keyhole. We did get it off eventually but even with the instructions (which of course might be locked in the car) found it difficult. As i was going to have to live with the problem until we got home I hit on the idea of just holding the open button on the key so that all four windows came down then operating the driver's door from the inside which became our preferred method of entry.
So there you have it, three ways to get into a locked FL2 - tailgate, manual key or windows. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Some years ago we had day after day of 43°C in southern France. I hope the windows still open! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Just had the same problem, the driver's door lock actuator needs changing and is being changed under warrantee next week.
The driver's is the master and the other doors will not unlock until it works.

It's another known problem, hope I can work my way through them before the warrantee runs out.

Also you can change the door lock settings to all four doors at once.
When you open the car the three other doors unlock and you can get in.

I tried changing to all four doors together and it made no difference on mine. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

A bit of a cautionary tale from me...……….
Yesterday, whilst out walking the dog, got caught out in the only spell of rain we have seen for the past 4 weeks and despite moving the key fob into a so called waterproof pocket, it got quite wet.

A bit later I went to unlock the car and it failed to work, so I thought I would try using the manual key blade method in the passenger door to gain access. I have never done this before, but eventually got the cover off but was unable to unlock the car. I applied as much force as I felt was safe, but it wouldn't open. Searching on the forum I have found mention of similar experiences and even using plyers to turn the key!! since this entry route has never used before since the car was new 7+ years ago, I have sprayed in some GT85 and will try again later.

Fortunately after putting a new battery in the spare fob that worked fine

has anyone else had any similar experience of …….
A wet key fob??
Gaining emergency access via the passenger door??

I have dried out the key fob that got wet and replaced the battery. It will now lock the car but not unlock it??

Anyway, moral of this tale is a)Keep your key fob dry and b)Practice emergency access via passenger door before you need to.

Steve

Yes it’s good practice to squirt some kind of lube in the lock and operate it a few times now and again.

Yes the lock cover is quite tricky to get off so that you can use the emergency key but not a problem 'cos the instructions on how to do it will be in the manual which is in the glovebox locked in the car.........Oh Shocked 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto
