Canada 2007 LR2 i6 HSE Auto Tambora Flame

I plan to have the car for 8+ years. So the fact that I can drive it where an Acura RDX can't go, that I don't look like a tool in an BMW X3, that I don't get lost in a parking lot looking for a Toyota RAV4 among the 1000s of other RAV4s (sorry for all the North America car names) and that I actually feel proud driving my vehicle is worth more than the current market value. Now, if I were forced to sell, I'd be pretty choked.

In fact, in North America you buy a Land Rover expecting that it will depreciate fast than your stock portfolio.

Was in the dealer today he told me my 57 GS TD4 was worth £13k but he'd give me £18 towards a £40,865 Disco SE. looks like i might be keeping the FL2 for a little while longer.

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Tambora Flame

I'm with the keep it forever boys.
I learned my lesson 10 years ago. I bought A 3yr old C class merc, at the time, one of the lowest depreciating cars around. In 3 years it had only dropped from 26k to 19k.
I put an extended warranty on it, babied it and ran it for 2 years and 12,000 miles. When I took my showroom condition, still fully warrantied car round the dealers, looking for an upgrade, knowing that the showroom ticket price would be approx £14k, they very generously offered me.....£7,000.
Hence I now only buy nice cars I can keep forever.
Which is why I have an fl2. Thumbs Up 07 Freelander 2 TD4SE Tambora Flame, side steps, privacy glass, mud flaps, boot liner and a tow bar. Ok it's the Wifes but she lets me drive it occasionally - if I've been good!

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Stornoway Grey

I've mentioned my lease costs elsewhere but just to add to this thread these are the figures in my car.

Current deal is a 30 month lease with a final value of £14,600 - I get first first refusal if I want it.

Same deal deal signed today would be worked around a 30 month value of ..... £9,100 Shocked

Consequence of this a is 43% increase in monthly cost on the new deal ...

I think my next car will be a Fiesta Econotec !!! Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ... Big Cry ... psst look at my gallery!
Company cars ... a thing of the past - May 2013.

Trouble is now I suspect the finance/leasing companies are getting their fingers well and truly burnt as anything that goes in at the end of its lease is probably fetching far lass than originally predicted. I suspect this is catch up time. Doesnt exactly help to shift the new metal though does it!

personal contract hire is the best way to go! 3 years of hassle free (not in my case) motoring and then hand the keys back and walk away - or if you love it so much ask for a purchase price and they will offer it to you, normally a little cheaper than a LR dealer (not difficult!).

A 2 year old £33K HSE Auto with bodykit is only fetching £17K at the stealers so they would probably only offer £14K tops in part ex. making a £19K difference which on contract hire would only have cost £14K thus you would have saved £5K plus not having to worry about resale values!!

Thats the point - PCPs were a good idea a while back (when we didn't know they would be) but they're not so good now. Hindsight and all that.
It's all an illusion anyway. Nothing is selling at the moment so the value of everything is depressed, so if things do recover (ok unlikely) values will rebound, especially as used FL2s will be thin on the ground.
If not, then ok, I'll get Censored all for mine, but a) I'm not selling and b) if I did, I'd get an equivalently depressed price on a new one. Remember it's not what yours is worth that matters, it all about price to change, and I suspect that hasn't changed much. 07 Freelander 2 TD4SE Tambora Flame, side steps, privacy glass, mud flaps, boot liner and a tow bar. I have just come out of a 3 year PCP after 2 years on a MkII Audi TT. Basically this meant I was shafted. All these finance plans are great until your circumstances change. Mine did, we had a baby. After 2 years, I had £21500 left to pay (inc. £16.5k gmv after 3 years) but was only offered £18k for the TT (and that was a struggle). That meant £3.5k negative equity before thinking about a deposit on something else.

I don't plan on using these schemes again. I wanted a vehicle which would be adaptable to future family expansions and one which I would be happy to keep for years...hence the FL2. Its financed over a couple of years then its all mine. TD4, HSE, Santorini Black, SS side protection tubes, clear side repeaters, chrome wing mirror covers

Same here. When I retired in 2006 (the first time) I purchased a 3 litre petrol Shogun which as petrol was then only about 60 pence per gallon and only doing leisure miles not a problem.

But when the boss asked me to go back to help out 9 months later when petrol had got to 85 pence I looked round for a "banger" for the daily 40 mile round trip and was very fortunate to be donated a 1400 cc Rover 214SEi with 35k miles on the clock,by a relative of an electrician who used to work for me in a former life.
This enabled me to part ex the X reg Shogun with only 60k miles on the clock for a very good deal on the FL2 in 2008 and four years after acquiring it now has 97k miles and is doing the same job for the FL2.
It does 42mpg even with my lead foot and has only cost approx £150.00 per year for consumables and the odd repair.

You think F2 is a heavy depreciator....... CHPR are now selling new RRS TDV8's for £13000 less than they cost last year! So just think what my annual drop in value has been in the last 15 months and 13750 miles! How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?
Now driving - RRE Coupe Dynamic Lux Auto with Plus pack, Fuji White, Ebony, SD4 with tow pack
Gone - 2010MY FFRR TDv8 Stornoway and Ivory, Privacy - the pace of a TDv8 RRS, the incomparable grace of a Range Rover
Gone but will be missed- RRS Tdv8 HSE Stornoway Grey with Ebony Leather
Gone (only a little missed) RRS Tdv6 2.7SE Giverny Green/Aspen
Defender 90 County HT in Epsom Green

You also have to take in account that if a dealer takes it back, he needs to make some money on it and he'll need some extra to compensate for the warranty he's giving.

Anyway, I didn't buy the car for what it's worth, I bought it for what it is. And sinse I'm selfemployed I get 1/3th back anyway. I can sell it cheap to my private self so I loose a lot less then a private owner.

My missus wants an Audi for our next car so I went in to get a brochure for her. While I was in there I thought I'd see what they said for a PX deal. They offered £15k for the car but I still owe £18k to settle on the PCP! They reckon I'll never get out of negative equity now until the end of the agreement. Rolling Eyes Sad Luckily the GMFV was £13.5k after 3 years when I bought it so I'll be able to just walk away.

Terrible for a car 6 months old that cost £25k and only has 6000 on the clock losing £10k. Seems this LR deal where they now give you £5k off the lsit price of a FL2 as soon as you walk in the door has hit our residuals hard. 09MY FL2 Td4 XS, Style Pack, Privacy Glass, Martinique Blue.. oh so very blue..
