I plan to have the car for 8+ years. So the fact that I can drive it where an Acura RDX can't go, that I don't look like a tool in an BMW X3, that I don't get lost in a parking lot looking for a Toyota RAV4 among the 1000s of other RAV4s (sorry for all the North America car names) and that I actually feel proud driving my vehicle is worth more than the current market value. Now, if I were forced to sell, I'd be pretty choked.

I've mentioned my lease costs elsewhere but just to add to this thread these are the figures in my car.

Trouble is now I suspect the finance/leasing companies are getting their fingers well and truly burnt as anything that goes in at the end of its lease is probably fetching far lass than originally predicted. I suspect this is catch up time. Doesnt exactly help to shift the new metal though does it! |

personal contract hire is the best way to go! 3 years of hassle free (not in my case) motoring and then hand the keys back and walk away - or if you love it so much ask for a purchase price and they will offer it to you, normally a little cheaper than a LR dealer (not difficult!).

Thats the point - PCPs were a good idea a while back (when we didn't know they would be) but they're not so good now. Hindsight and all that. It's all an illusion anyway. Nothing is selling at the moment so the value of everything is depressed, so if things do recover (ok unlikely) values will rebound, especially as used FL2s will be thin on the ground. If not, then ok, I'll get all for mine, but a) I'm not selling and b) if I did, I'd get an equivalently depressed price on a new one. Remember it's not what yours is worth that matters, it all about price to change, and I suspect that hasn't changed much. 07 Freelander 2 TD4SE Tambora Flame, side steps, privacy glass, mud flaps, boot liner and a tow bar. Ok it's the Wifes but she lets me drive it occasionally - if I've been good! |

I have just come out of a 3 year PCP after 2 years on a MkII Audi TT. Basically this meant I was shafted. All these finance plans are great until your circumstances change. Mine did, we had a baby. After 2 years, I had £21500 left to pay (inc. £16.5k gmv after 3 years) but was only offered £18k for the TT (and that was a struggle). That meant £3.5k negative equity before thinking about a deposit on something else. I don't plan on using these schemes again. I wanted a vehicle which would be adaptable to future family expansions and one which I would be happy to keep for years...hence the FL2. Its financed over a couple of years then its all mine. Same here. When I retired in 2006 (the first time) I purchased a 3 litre petrol Shogun which as petrol was then only about 60 pence per gallon and only doing leisure miles not a problem. But when the boss asked me to go back to help out 9 months later when petrol had got to 85 pence I looked round for a "banger" for the daily 40 mile round trip and was very fortunate to be donated a 1400 cc Rover 214SEi with 35k miles on the clock,by a relative of an electrician who used to work for me in a former life. This enabled me to part ex the X reg Shogun with only 60k miles on the clock for a very good deal on the FL2 in 2008 and four years after acquiring it now has 97k miles and is doing the same job for the FL2. It does 42mpg even with my lead foot and has only cost approx £150.00 per year for consumables and the odd repair. Bill Turner Life Honorary Member of Wallasey Motor Club. You think F2 is a heavy depreciator....... CHPR are now selling new RRS TDV8's for £13000 less than they cost last year! So just think what my annual drop in value has been in the last 15 months and 13750 miles! How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

You also have to take in account that if a dealer takes it back, he needs to make some money on it and he'll need some extra to compensate for the warranty he's giving.

My missus wants an Audi for our next car so I went in to get a brochure for her. While I was in there I thought I'd see what they said for a PX deal. They offered £15k for the car but I still owe £18k to settle on the PCP! They reckon I'll never get out of negative equity now until the end of the agreement. Luckily the GMFV was £13.5k after 3 years when I bought it so I'll be able to just walk away.
