United States 2007 LR2 i6 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

Does anybody else know of a way to ensure the keyfobs remain charged if you don't use the car often? Went to use the car yesterday after not having used it for some 3 weeks, and neither of the two keyfobs worked on the car. It clearly wasn't a car battery issue, as the red blinking theft deterrent light was still clearly visible. Had to remove the cap from the door handle, separate out the physical key from the keyfob, and open the car that way. As above, the alarm went off until I inserted the keyfob again.

Clearly there should be a better option for those who don't use the car that often, some way of charging the keyfob battery outside the car. Any suggestions?

I understand that most Land Rovers will completely shut down if left standing for a long time (I believe that four weeks is the length of time), this is to prevent a total drain on the battery. The only way to wake up the system is to use the key in the door lock, all being well this should wake up the system and everything should be OK.

As the thread was also talking about deadlocks I have had conflicting information on this. After reading a previous thread I have been pressing the key twice to deadlock the car but after talking to a Land Rover support technician he tells me that on previous models this was the case but on the FL2 the car is deadlocked on one press and that two presses takes the deadlocks off (which would make more sense). Now I am not 100% sure which is correct.

See my original post on:

http://www.freel2.com/forum/post12986.html#12986

I had pressed the key twice, and the FL2 was definitely deadlocked, which was what caused me the problem - I was unable to open any of the doors from the inside once I had the passenger door ajar.

My experience does, however, tie in with the idea that after four weeks everything completely shuts down. I don't recall whether the red light was blinking before I 'woke up' the system by trying to get in via the passenger door using the manual key. 2007 Baltic Blue SE TD4 Auto

Doesn't the second push also activate the volumetric alarm also? which fits with the second push operating the deadlocks.

Unless of course this is all dealer programable depending on your preference. Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ... Big Cry ... psst look at my gallery!

Deep Sleep

Just had the same problem.

Apparantly the electronics close down after a period.

After 23 days - was still OK - opened the car. After 33 days not OK.
The alarm lamp on the dash was flashing OK.

My problem was that the Left (UK passengers side) door was hard up against a wall,\so could not use the key to unlock it.

John McC of Land Rover assist duly arrived. Battery voltage was establised as OK (about 12.3 volts) by checking volts at the caravan socket.

Wires were then found to inject a signal to operate the tailgate lock to climb in and put the fob into the cassette. All was then fine. This did take some time - but at least it was not raining.

The thought was that one would need to at least put a fob into the cassette periodically - (not sure whether it is also nescessary to start the car) to remind it not to go to sleep.

I would like to know whether the electronics does this on the basis of time or if it sees the battery voltage below a certain level. Probably based on time because my battery voltage was about 12.3 volts. I wonder if this time period is known?

A shame a lock is not also fitted on drivers door. When leaving it for more than 23 days I will have to park it the other way round and climb out of the passengers door.

A very big thank you to John McC of Land Rover Assist!
Merry Xmas John - thanks.

I often have to leave mine for long periods of time - say eight to ten weeks. Fortunately it is in a locked garage so I disconnect the negative side of the battery, remove the starter motor fuse and put it in the socket for the heated screen ( which I havn't got ) and then have to leave it unlocked with a steering wheel lock on. Can't leave a trickle charger on as there is no electricity. 2007 FL2 SE Diesel Auto

I thought of the panal / panel but its less likely to self ignite with the battery disconnected. Good thinking though chaps. 2007 FL2 SE Diesel Auto

Hey come on now guys, non-starting, dead-locked, self igniting, rig up a solar panel to keep the battery charged Freelanders - you gotta be kidding - Somefing aint right and LR should be kicked in the ass until they fix the situation Shocked

Why not send you concerns to Land Rover Customer Relations (UK) and let them filter your questions and concerns to the correct department who should help you out – that what they are there for!
If anybody needs a contact email for LR-CR-UK let me know (got it at home). They are well aware of Freel2.com (you could mention it in your email as well) and need a bit more chasing anyway Thumbs Up 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

I’m still British and I do know Heath Robinson (lives on an island somewhere I believe Laughing ), and I was not talking about complaining to LR (although it may have sounded like that). Just ask them or tell them or explain the problems we are having with our FL2's - all they can do is ignore us and then we will know where we stand Shocked
I have been in contact with them about "the correct oil" and have had reply’s but no real answers to the questions I asked - but more of that if I get a satisfying answer.

Sticking pins in a LR-dummy wont help us either, even if it make some members feel better "OUCH" - just felt a pin stick (nearly said p Censored k)Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

My ex wife has one of those too, but to date all it has achieved is me losing my fear of heights, who says acupuncture doesn't work !

Don't leave the dummies lying around though i would hate for Finn to hurt himself or worse transfer some on the pins to Mummy's doll of daddy Rolling with laughter

Safety first.......when my daughter was younger I left her playing with a jigsaw one day and was horrified when i returned and she had managed to plug it in and cut off one of her fingers Twisted Evil
