The BBC report is not strictly accurate as the Rangie was actually pulled from the mud by the RNlI tracked launcher which is an Ex military Hagglands BV206 (A very impressive bit of kit!) |

That's much more plausible.
Quite. But the key thing here is 'mud flats' - mud flats are notoriously treacherous, having elements of quicksand as well as being very soft and clingy. People die walking on mud flats. How anyone could think it a suitable place for a car, even a 4x4, is beyond me. |

Its the same type of people who speed everywhere at mach 2 in the snow and ice of winter just because they drive a 4x4.

Somehow reminds me of the comment my son's flying instructor made when he was asked if it was preferable to have a twin engine plane. Answer "no the extra engine just gets you to the crash site quicker" 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
