Some people just have no common sense at all. It should be obvious to anyone and everyone what's likely to happen if you take a 2-ton car onto mud flats!

It was pulled out by the hovercraft before the tide surrounded it.

That little hovercraft pulled out a bogged Range Rover - that's impressive!

when they say test drive I wonder if they mean he was on a test drive from a garage before buying it ? can you imagine the look on the dealers face when you return the car and say no thanks Whistle Rolling with laughter

The BBC report is not strictly accurate as the Rangie was actually pulled from the mud by the RNlI tracked launcher which is an Ex military Hagglands BV206 (A very impressive bit of kit!) Thumbs Up

That's much more plausible.

Quite. But the key thing here is 'mud flats' - mud flats are notoriously treacherous, having elements of quicksand as well as being very soft and clingy. People die walking on mud flats. How anyone could think it a suitable place for a car, even a 4x4, is beyond me.

Its the same type of people who speed everywhere at mach 2 in the snow and ice of winter just because they drive a 4x4.

As we all know in here, a 4x4 will skid, slide, spin and crash just like any 2WD car.... it will just do it differently (some would say with more style and panache Laughing )

and a 3 ton 4x4 will still sink up to its axles in mud and sand and need pulling out..

as for the BV206.... utter beasts !! they even up armoured them for the marines to use in Afghan where they proved invaluable until newer vehicles could be sourced.

Somehow reminds me of the comment my son's flying instructor made when he was asked if it was preferable to have a twin engine plane. Answer "no the extra engine just gets you to the crash site quicker" 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto
