Brake Caliper Bleed Nipples

Guys, have been looking (unsuccessfully) for the LR no. of the Brake caliper bleed nipples, or at least dimensions to buy a new set. Have been at it for hours, and was wondering if anyone on this forum knew the answer?

It's for the 07, TD4 model.

I've broken the rear one trying to get it off and will most likely need to drill it out (but only when I have a new nipple at home!).
Are the front and rear the same?

Saithe,

Check the Caliper somewhere on the casting it should have the manufacturers mark

Likely ATE but possibly TRW or maybe something else

If its ATE then look at this thread

It looks like the part can be purchased but you will likely need to go to the auto parts store and confirm the size by matchng the old part.

Hopefully this helps

Paul

MY13 nipples are a differing spanner size size front to rear so my guess is the nipples are also. A set of easy outs (or similar) may help. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

If you are lucky enough to be able to drill out the broken nipple then you need to rush out and buy a lottery ticket as you are very very lucky!. You have to drill into the broken part enough to get an easy out into what is left and then attempt to get the still seized part out without snapping the easyout which can be almost impossible to do. You can buy kits on Ebay that lets you drill it out oversize retap it and fit a larger nipple but if you drill too far down and damage the seat or drill a little bit off centre then the nipple won`t seal and you will have a leak. Big Cry
My advice to avoid hrs of frustration and needless expense is to A take the caliper off and get an engineering firm to sort it out properly for you or B. Buy a new caliper. There are genuine new Land Rover Freelander calipers on Ebay at the moment for a shade under £50 inc delivery. Thumbs Up

Thanks for all the info guys!

I've drilled these out on old motorbikes before (I restore them as a hobby), by properly centering and clamping the caliper at the base of a pillar drill before drilling out. The first one I ever did, the drill bit bit too deep and as you say, the fluid leaked afterwards. I've done a few since then, and haven't had a problem since.

In this case I think I'll be able to get it out by using a nut remover (there's still some head sticking up out of the calliper), but as it's my daily drive I don't want it off the road, so won't be attempting anything until the part comes in.

Either way, I'm not going to let them seize up like this again!

Will keep you updated.

Westville, looks like a good parts catalogue you have there. Is it something I could lay my hands on? (purchase, download, etc.)

A long time ago I drilled out a broken bleed nipple on a Morris Marina using a set of drills and a hand drill. Took me all day but it was eventually successful. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
