roof rails and cross brace/bar

Hi there....

I'm being a tad stupid over what I need to 'complete' our roof rack on our freelander 2
we have two rails, with one back cross brace.
Obviously if i put the roofbox on it will topple forward.
Do i need two roof bars? or to buy just one more cross brace - and how do I fix that?

Sorry to sound idiotic!

Best

You need a set of roof bars. FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip,
Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.

the cross bar that's permanently fitted to the rails is to provide some extra strength to the whole set-up.

to mount anything on the bars you will need a set of roof bars, they don't have to be LR ones, just ones that will clamp onto the rails either side, plenty for sale on Ebay or in Halfords etc.

You can then fit your roof box, bike racks etc. with U clamps

hope that helps

Ah ok - thanks... will look for some to fit our roof box's clamps. (and don't want them too high as already high with the rails.

Thanks again

if you don't want them too high then the genuine LR maybe your best option (made by Thule apparently) but they are very pricey to get new.

Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

told you they were pricey....

however you can get bars from £20 upwards on Ebay that will do the job.

similar to these, just check the fitting width.

yeh looks like they will fit ok

points to note

-They are square bars so the wind noise will be worse than aero bars
-They are not lockable unless you pay extra so your roof box etc will not be secured against theft as they can just undo the bars and take the lot, there are other bars out there for same or cheaper prices that do lock.

Ok thanks for all your help.

Will go and look at some and then decide. Wind noise is an issue as we're pretty lazy at taking them off - but we already have some square bars so I'm thinking we only need foot fitting kit perhaps... If I'm goign for whole new thing - then I think the more aero wons are important.

If you're patient you will be able to buy everything second had for a good price.

I've managed to get Genuine Land Rover Rails, Genuine Land Rover Bars and A genuine Land Rover Roof Box for a total of £290. New for them all they would have been £880. They're all in great condition. Rails were from an Indy garage, Bars were off here and the box was off ebay. Took me about a month to source them all.
