Land Rover is refusing to change front differential Oil

Hi all,
I got official answer from my LR garage in Germany that the front differential is not serviceable because it doesnt have a drain.
Is it the same in your country?

Dresdner,

I misunderstood your question

I thought you asked "can it be serviced?"

The answer to that question is yes, the link that I posted show two different ways to accomplish this

You actually wanted to know "will a Land Rover Dealer perform this service upon request"

I don't take my car to the dealer for service so I can't answer your question.

Perhaps you should change the title of the post

From: Front Differential is not serviceable

To: Land Rover is refusing to change front differential Oil (Has anyone had this service done at a dealer)

Good Luck

Paul

It is a LR Volvo and Ford agent, very common combination in Germany

Change the transmission oil and therefore you'll change the front diff oil too.
The front diff is inside the auto transmission and shares the same oil.

Alex, I expect the OP is really referring to the Transfer Box. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

According to the manual the Diesel, petrol, manual and automatic all have the same PTU that contains 0.75ml.

As can see below the oil is traped in the unit and not sharing it

Now while searching i also found in the manual that "oil filled for life" which explains LR refuse to service it.

Marriage is for life but the divorce rate keeps rising ! Whistle

Just because some accountant saves 10 cents a car by not fitting a drain plug why would you want to run gears in the same crap forever ? All my transmission oils were changed a few weeks after coming out of warranty to include removing the Haldex for a new filter.

I agree, LR see more profits when this unit fails.
Also i saw the PTU has a breather so for sure the oil is being oxidized with time, it is not a sealed unit.
I will change it by myself

Indeed, after his last post, it seems that he means the PTU (power transfer unit) which is a totally different thing than the, and I quote, "front differential" he was referring in the first message. The PTU has a mean to (ex)change the fluid and therefore is serviceable, not like the garage said.
The front differential, like I said, is inside the main gearbox and shares the same oil with the gearbox and also serviceable by changing the main gearbox oil.

Thanks Alex, i was always under the impression that front diff and PTU are the same thing.
Also when i told the dealer front diff he understood i mean PTU.
Not blaming the forum Razz but i think i picked it up here.
