Had mine down to zero miles dozens of times, usually get a few miles further before it goes in to limp mode, I once did 7 motorway miles (to services) at a steady 55 mph on zero-not run out yet.

Norway 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Stornoway Grey

In my UK Owners Handbook page 20 it states:
Never allow your vehicle to run out of fuel as the resultant misfire may destroy the catalytic converter Shocked

Which is presumably referring to our DPF Question We have been warned Whistle 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.
Stornoway Grey with Ebony Black Pleather, Clear Indicators, Body Side Mouldings etc.

No, the DPF is a different filter to filter the soot out of the exhaust gasses. The catalytic converter is a device used to reduce the toxicity of emissions from an internal combustion engine.

For compression ignition (i.e., Diesel) engines, the most commonly used catalytic converter is the diesel oxidation catalyst. The catalyst uses excess O2 (oxygen) in the exhaust gas stream to oxidize CO (carbon monoxide) to CO2 (carbon dioxide) and HC (hydrocarbons) to H2O (water) and CO2. These converters often reach 90% effectiveness, virtually eliminating diesel odor and helping to reduce visible particulates.
