Hi everyone, what a very stressful morning it's been!

My Freelander is reverse parked in my garage. It's quite tight but just goes in if I keep the nearside very close to the wall, to enable me to get out of the drivers side (not possible to get out if driven in forwards!)

So today, having not driven the Freelander for about three weeks, opened the garage and pressed the remote to unlock the car - nothing! Tried the spare key - nothing! Car is locked and dead/super locked. My partner who is small and slim managed to squeeze along the n/s and unlock the passenger door, but that is the only door that would unlock and it was impossible to gain entry through there being so close to the wall.

Called the breakdown company out, after checking the batteries in both remotes (which are sealed units anyway) he tried to open the drivers door with his pole, to no avail. With a rug over the roof, he reached over and attempted to press the start/stop button with his pole, and also the lock/unlock button, but nothing worked. Then he managed to pull the bonnet open with the said pole, and we tried putting a boost pack on the battery, The battery it turned out was fine, and still made no difference.

By this time I was feeling pretty sick! We tried jacking the car up and moving it out, but that didnt work because although the handbrake was off, it was in park (being an auto) anyway.

The battery was disconnected to try and stop the alarm from sounding, but didnt make any difference so was reconnected. Eventually after a cup of tea and some further attempts to open the car, I pressed the remote.... and it unlocked.

What on earth was going on there then??

It's gone into sleep mode,the procedure is open passenger door with key put fob in ignition, I know you couldn't but that's how I think it's done.

We had something like this when the power tripped out in my garage so that the electric door wouldn't open. There is an inward opening side door but the car was parked close to it so impossible to gain entry. The solution was to engage the services of my neighbour's 6 year old daughter who managed to squeeze in and reset the electrics. As she will soon be too big to do this trick again I have now changed the side door to open outwards. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Thanks for that. I'll remember not to lock the car when in the garage in case it happens again! Fancy having the key lock only on the passenger side eh??

Yes, I've heard this which is why I locked it up!

I'm just going to have to use it more often!
