Sat nav disc drive issue

Following on from the rear diff query, has anyone experienced any issues with the factory fit sat nav (59 plate HSE).Worked fine until recently when the map started to disappear- now get a message stating "unable to read disc" it currently tries to build a basic map on the screen when sat nav is turned on, but then reverts to the "unable to read ..." message. I have tried the other unused genuine LR discs in the disc drive, but get the same message. I have also tried a DVD cleaner (disc) in the drive but this has not achieved any improvement.

Thanks

Paul

Could be the laser faulty and may need a new drive.

Screen tries to build map, then unable to read data. Has anyone tried to clean
the laser within the disc drive?

It spun around as I remember several times so I thought it must be doing something.

Do you have an original map disc or is it a copy?

Copied "burnt" discs don't last too long, because they are constantly being read when the ignition is on, they get hot and eventually start to fail.

Original "pressed" discs don't have this problem. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

It's the original disc supplied by Land Rover.

I had this on my old 59 plate - purchased new disc and worked a treat.

Error message also shows when loading the other genuine discs supplied with the car. Suspect an internal fault, possibly laser? Can anyone recommend a sat nav dvd drive repairer? Apparently these little boxes are apx £3500 new!!!!

I'd try to clean the laser's lens with a cleaner kit first, the disc cleaner normally has some brushes stuck on and after some spinning hopefully it cleans the lens so the lase can read the disc again. If that still fails, see if you can open the unit and determine the DVD drive model number, you may be able to source and replace just the drive.

Worst case you can take a replacement from another FL2, or also Jag XF, Jag XK, probably several Volvo models as well, possibly even a Disco3. Nobody in their right mind would buy a new one at that price. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers
