We were driving an auto at the weekend and the brakes did seem more "sudden" than on out own manual FL2. Did take a bit of getting used to though - GrinningLander is yours auto or manual? 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

The brakes are pretty fierce - compared to our old Kia Sportage, very fierce indeed. We noted it in on our test drives in a HSE auto and it is more or less the same in our 1yr old GS auto.

It's all about getting used to the car, be it FL2 or any other car, they all have different characteristics. After a period of time we all get used to the car.

I know it is a totally different type of vehicle and where I live 80% of the roads have no speed restrictions, but my last car BMW 320D Sport use to go through a set of pads on the front every 12K miles and a set on the rear pads every 20K. In the time I had the car (4 years) I went through a full set of disks in year two (replaced under warranty) and a full set of disks in year four. Rear tyres were replaced every 12 months and front tyres every 16 months. When you are looking at a minimum of £200 each for 18” low profile tyres the costs of consumables soon add up. With the FL2 I know that these parts will last a lot longer before replacement and reduce my overall cost of ownership. |

Out of interest, you are using your right foot to brake aren't you? I borrowed an auto a few months ago and, being used to a manual gearbox, my left foot just couldn't help itself from getting involved in the whole driving experience and it ended up touching the brake at the same time that I had a little bit of throttle still on. I nearly went through the windscreen |
